My doctor gave me some antibiotics since I have been fighting a yeast infection. It was going away but too slowly. The major problem with high blood sugars is consistent issues with yeast infections. It is a vicious cycle. (Atkins goes into great detail about yeast infections and how they are directly related to food allergies, carb allergies.) She said sometimes the only way to get rid of the yeast infection is through medication but she strongly suggested I stick with my eating plan too.
I am starting to feel better. I am finally getting away from the bad carbs and have not had any for 3 days. I am not as tired and my blood sugars are dropping. I told Dr. Vernon about the website and she thought that was great. She said that she is used to dealing with the negative feedback about Atkins, but she says she has the studies and research not to mention all the patients she has helped with this eating plan that proves it works. This way of eating is a bona fide CURE for type 2 diabetes. She has helped many type 2 diabetics get off all medications and lead an insulin shot free life.

For all you diabetics out there,I know for a fact from losing the weight before and seeing the dramatic effects on my blood sugar, my lipids, my good hdl and bad hdl that this way of life works. I was almost off insulin, I was taking about 2 units a day which was a first in 25 years. I don't know of any other eating plan that works this efficiently for a diabetic.
Remember, you should always see a physician before starting any weight loss plan. Even if you get a doctor that doesn't agree, It will give them some eye opening results.

Thanks for all the support. Your comments really help and it beats the heck out of feeling down and out!!

Grandma hugs to you all

If you are on antibiotics (haven't heard of this for yeast, ususally an antifungal is prescribed) make sure that you also take a probiotic since the medicine kills off the good bacteria in your system. Dr Atkins talks about the kind to get in the chapter on yeast management in his book. Trying to get the balance back can be difficult but doing it is sooo worth it.

Antibiotics only kill bacteria. Yeast is candida and requires an anti-fungal. You're probably given diflucan for yeast. Be sure you have it right because antibiotics will actually make yeast worse. This diet, however is GREAT for both yeast problems and diabetes. Yeast feeds off of sugars that you eat so if you don't eat sugars you STARVE them out. The other thing to be aware of is that pathogenic yeast in your body makes you crave sugars so until you get rid of it, it might make it harder for you to resist them. By the way, we also have beneficial bacteria and yeast that are supposed to live in our body in a balance which is upset by antibiotics and antifungal medications, so it IS important, as slease said, to take probiotic supplements and eat probiotic foods to replenish your system. The most balanced form is in Kefir (a kind of yogurt) sold by Helios nutrition. I only recommend this brand because it is the most reputable. There are more and more studies showing that our health and immune function is strengthened by these friendly buggers. LOL. Good luck. You're doing great!

I am unfortunately on antibiotics for cellulitis which I get in my left leg about 3 or 4 times a year, she put me on the antibiotics for that and put me on fluconazale for the yeast. I usually get both when I get any antiobiotics. I read my post and I forgot to mention the skin infection on my leg.sorry,it probable makes more sense now. I agree, with both your commentaries. I take supplements and choose yogurt each day that has l acidophilus. I am curious though, dont the proponents that support probiotic diet supplements believe a diet that is high in fats and meats promotes the growth of the harmful putrefying bacteria because it takes so long for our bodies to break down? Just wondering. I like to use phyllium and the husks to make my low carb muffins. I will post my muffin recipe in my cookbook, It seems to take a while to have recipes approved.
