Toni Bourlon's Journal, 25 June 2017

For the past week, my husband Ron has been on a pre-op diet of 4-6 oz of protein & 1-2 cups vegetables twice daily, supplemented with protein drinks and/or yogurt. Today he starts the totally liquid diet phase, and I agreed to do this with him. I just don't want to be eating food in front of him while he's trying to do this, though I admit I'll probably eat lunch at work tomorrow & Tuesday, and probably have some yogurt today. His surgery is Wednesday at 9:30am.

Thought I'd share something funny. Our younger daughter Margaret is at home for the summer. The other day she told us that she wants to cut back on how much sugar she's eating (YAY!!!), so please don't buy her anymore Pop-Tarts or powdered donuts. Guess her father's surgery is having an effect on her. Well, since I'm doing this thing with Ron I told her to make a list of food she'd want to make for herself for a few days, and then I went shopping. While shopping I saw this little Duncan Hines single-serving cake-in-a-mug mix in Vanilla Bean, and I thought "Oh, I bet she'd like that!" So I bought it for her, and when I handed it to her she looked at me like I was crazy. Yeah, I guess that wasn't so smart, but isn't that what parents do? We want to do something nice for our kids, so we buy them treats. Yeah, I'm gonna have to re-think that one....
