Ok so I have lost 27 lbs. so far which is great, but since I'm really trying to listen to my body, I think there is more that I could be doing. So I’m looking into starting to eat a low carb diet. Now I have done Atkins before and I know it works (I was on it for 4 months and lost over 60 lbs.) but as soon as I stopped Atkins and brought back some carbs into my diet the weight came back even faster than it came off. I’m not prepared to crash and burn like that again, so I have been talking to people who have found ways to maintain their low carb diets (and weight loss) over a long period of time, to find out how it's done.

One big problem I have with a low carb diet is the fact that I have to cook dinner for my husband and daughters every night, and they like very traditional dinners, meaning meat, veggies and a starch (or carbs). During the day I can eat whatever I want and have no trouble cutting out the carbs, but when I get home and my husband wants "meat and potatoes" it's hard to change his mind and get him to try new things. He is perfectly happy being fat and eating as much and whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. So that is my main challenge with a low carb diet. I know I can do it and my friends had some ideas like to cook 2 dinners, a "meat and potatoes" dinner for my family and then a low carb dinner for me. or I could just cook extra veggies and not have any of the carbs that I make for everyone else. either way it could work, just have to stay motivated!

Hi new buddy! Honestly it's much simpler than you'd think. I've been carb cycling for close to a year & the bonus of low carb is that you don't have to watch your fat intake. So steak, potatoes & a veg is an EXCELLENT low carb dinner, provided you don't eat the potatoes! I never prepare 2 separate meals for my fam, I just make sure the starch is separate then don't eat it. Pretty easy. If they want something like pizza or something else that doesn't fit my plan, in that case I'll prepare something just for myself but that's never an issue. It's very likely the fact that you "stopped Atkins" was the reason you gained. You can go back to eating carbs but you do have to transition out of it, & that's just a matter of increasing your carbs by 10g a week to get your body used to it. If you just stop limiting them then of course you'll gain. I'm actually in the process of transitioning to a different way of eating - haven't nailed down the details yet, but I think I'll be increasing my carb target. Lately my eating has been a challenge for multiple reasons so I don't think the plan I was following is such a great fit anymore. Congrats on your progress so far!

If you see that it's hard for you to live within the rules of Atkins, then why do it? You're considering a change in life habits here, why not simply change to habits that you can already accomplish? For that very reason I count calories. I could never do Atkins, I've tried it and it got SO tedious. I count my calories, eat pretty much what I want - meats, potatoes, veggies, pizza, burger, fish, chocolate, chips, sodas (but the bad things of course in moderation), use my Indulgence Day system (same general idea as the spike diet), and I live happily every day. It's no longer a challenge to lose weight. It's my new way of life, and it's easy. Sure, there are times where I don't lose, but take a look at my stats and tell me what I do isn't working! :) Wife and daughter share every meal with me, and they've never had any complains. Now, they have joined me losing weight since "they're already doing it", and it works a charm on them too. Whe

Thanks guys!! It is SOO nice to have people to talk to about things like this, since I'm kinda doing this on my own, (which is a good thing I know!) but I find it very inspirational to have buddies to share and get advice from!! Thanks again!!
