MerryWeather's Journal, 30 September 2011

Today was a fight to the finish and I used every bit of arsenal I had against the attack of bad habits. I woke up with the worst hunger pains and could feel my body fighting me on my new life style change (the scale didn’t help with the fluctuation of one pound increase trying to deter my spirit). I hit the streets for my 2mile walk and I could think of nothing but food. I came home and showered quicker than usual to get to my planned breakfast menu but my cravings for seconds were strong. I popped a piece of gum in my mouth as I finished dressing and getting ready for work and was out the door before I could start snacking. As soon as I got to work, I pulled out the baby carrots and peaunutbutter because I could feel the hunger pains distracting me from my work and urging me to hit the café for goodies. Lunch came and I had my favorite Spinach, Strawberry, Feta Cheese, and Pecan Salad and I was at peace for a whole 45 minutes as I enjoyed my lovely lunch. But, no sooner did I get back to my desk and my body attacked once again with cravings (being deprived of the “stuffed” feeling after eating.) I prepared a cup of hot tea and sipped it slowly for half an hour. Equipped with my large glass of cucumber water, I ran into a meeting that lasted the rest of the work day and kept me away from food and kept my mind focused on work. I retreated back home and followed the diet plan which lead me to a very nice dinner with my husband, and again I enjoyed the calm feeling (but in the back of my mind I knew that sweet tooth was lurking and planning an assault in just a short time.) I suggested to my husband an outdoor activity that kept me away from the house for a few hours. As soon as I came back in, I grabbed a skinny cow and a DVD and had a lovely evening enjoying a movie and ice-cream. What a great evening to end my first week.

Today I won the battle!

The weekend is a big fear for me because it will be my first weekend in my new lifestyle change. But with my friends on this website and the encouragement I receive, I forge on armed with the strategies and tips from those who have won many battles, equipped with the love and support of my family, and caring the knowledge that the new life that awaits me at the other side is filled with energy, strength, and fashion!

Woo-hoo!! You go girl!! It does take a couple weeks for your body to come to peace with new eating habits. Stay strong! For the full feeling try chugging water after your meal, it helps you feel super full.

Water works! Thanks. I love flavored water (cucumber, or lemon, or strawberry) Does adding a fruit to your water add calories, even if you don’t actually eat the fruit. You support is so helpful. Thanks so much for everything!

Yes, it does add calories but I think that it would be a negligable amount. The cucumber I definitely wouldn't worry about counting. And you are very welcome. It's so nice to have someone who is sincere about their desire to get healthy and talks back!

adding lemon juice makes it taste good and it is supposed to be great for you liver! You can also add high volume low calorie foods to your menu too - cabbage can be eaten, steamed, sauteed, in soups or as a salad (I prefer nappa cabbage) and spinach makes a great salad or taste great wilted with a bit of lemon!- you end up eating for a long time, fell fuller and have added fiber and water - I even have sauteed cabbage with home made spaghetti sauce! delicious :)
