JKL2012's Journal, 17 February 2016

It has been some time since my last entry, but I must admit I am really inspired by my past-self's discipline and dedication. I think it is very interesting that when things are going well health/weight-wise I'm more likely to keep up with this journal. Not sure if that's because I want to record times when I've done well OR if it's more a mindset of accountability and discipline that drives both healthy living and journalling (chicken vs. egg kind of thing).

Anyways, right now I am on week 2 of 12 of living away from Kingston (now in Peterborough Anesthesia, in March starting Oshawa ICU for 2 months), so health and routine does tend to suffer. However, I don't want that to be my excuse for why I can put off cleaning up my diet for 3 months. Plus I know that when I'm staying with Mom and Dad in Oshawa they will be more inclined to be healthy eaters than Nan.

At the end of the day I think it has to come down to what you can and can't control when you're living away from home with family who love you and want to pseudo-celebrate every night because you are living there and they normally don't get to see you.

CANNOT Control:
- Actual Dinner Menu/Content (well, not in a polite, non-douchey way)

CAN Control:
- Portion size at dinner
- Snacking (type and quantity)
- Alcohol (type and quantity)
- Breakfast
- Lunch

When you lay it out like this, it is very easy to see that there is no excuse at all. Even if you had the fattiest, worst for you think every dinner time, if you only had a small portion and were clean the rest of the day you would still be winning.

Each Sunday when I'm back at home with all my own ingredients and supplies, I will make and/or bring:

- Healthy/paleo lunch casserole, bake, chili, or stew
- Breakfast on the go option (crustless quiche, eggers, paleo breakfast cookies/muffins)
- Healthy treat for work (energy cookie dough balls etc)
- Apples
- Nut mix for work
- Protein shakes

That way I know I am being as good as possible but also not taking away any fun from my 3 months living with my family! I think this is a very good, realistic, and manageable plan - the key will be being organized and taking time on Sundays to prepare food for the week. But I like doing food prep and our kitchen is perfect for an afternoon of food prep and binge watching Netflix simultaneously!

:D
