Can't keep up with all the changes to myself since I started eating more and lifting.

First, it seems I have an enormous capacity for water weight (but I kinda knew that after the 14 pounds that came and went in a week back in June, during my vacation). Since I bumped the calories up to about the 2500 range, I've put on 10 pounds almost instantly. I expected a few lbs from water, but not quite that many. I'm not worried that it's fat though - last night in the mirror I saw a few lines around my midsection that looked like stretch marks somehow. Took a closer look and it turns out they're veins. I'm now getting vascularity around my midsection. Apparently I'm piling on water weight remarkably fast, eating a "robust" number of calories for my current size, and still somehow losing body fat. My arms are getting even more veiny also. If I have to keep eating even more to start growing muscle, it's going to get painful. Unless I just give in and start eating straight-up junk food for the calorie density, but I don't really want to do that.

I guess there are worse problems to have, right? But it still kind of freaks me out to see the scale skyrocketing so quickly, even if I'm somehow still getting leaner.

Weird stuff. My body is a lot more malleable than I would've thought.

just curious with the changes taking place... how do your clothes fit? are there other noticeable differences in the lower weight vs the increase? things like definition, appearance of being more cut? etc???

My clothes are fitting roughly the same - although some of my shirts are getting a little bit tighter around the chest. The pants and belt fit very differently depending on just the time of day - the huge water weight swings up and down from exercise, eating, and hydration really change it. Which is also related to the overall appearance. After some big meals and/or salty foods, I'll be a little bloated around the midsection. If I ease up for a day, it will flush out and the belt will be loose again. It was disconcerting at first, but I'm getting used to it. I guess my wife was in the best position to judge how I'm changing, and this morning she told me that I'm getting noticeably larger and more muscular in the upper body, but my lower half is staying the same. She also agreed the vascularity is increasing, and that I've been changing incredibly quickly since I started lifting. It's all very strange, but fascinating! ...to me, anyway.

Well, I think that's awesome... and thank you for journaling your changes... I think it's fascinating as well. It's taken quite some effort for me to wrap my head around the possible need to adjust to a weight increase for the benefit of a better OVERALL looking shape. I too just re-started lifting, dumbbells and machines ... also gained ... but never thought any of that was possibly muscle. Just kept thinking my diet must somehow be off. But I don't think that's the case anymore. I think there is a whole conversion issue going on in my body where I am still losing 'stored fat', and, building new muscle ... retain water easily with the increase in exercise, but as you said, that can fluctuate easily too... depending on my off days, and how much I stay hydrated. All in all.. still in the same size clothes now at 148, as I was at 140 and no working out. (just mild walking and light activity). Thanks again for the update.

Thank you, I appreciate the support and the feedback! Particularly since my friends and family are pretty much sick of talking/hearing about nutrition and health stuff :)
