Weight was up just a few oz today...which is no real concern, happens frequently. Should be back down in another day or so. I have been faithfully doing 30 minutes on the elliptical, 5 days a week, since the first week of July. Debating whether it would be an improvement in fat burning if I were to change to a 40 minute/4 day a week schedule. It would actually add 10 minutes a week, and might give me more fat burning benefit by having longer workouts. Getting frustrated with my non-shrinking midsection. lol My legs are losing weight fast, much faster than my stomach...got to find some way to shake that up.

Wouldn't it be nice if we lost in our "biggest" places first?? I think shaking up your work out a bit might be a good idea!! Worth a try anyway!! Take care!

I would be happy if I were just losing there proportionately to what I'm losing elsewhere. lol 16's are too tight in my waist, but fit in the legs pretty well...the 18's fit in the waist, but are huge everywhere else. lol I think I will finish out this week with my 30 minute/5 day schedule, then start next week with 40 minute/4 day. Might throw in a bike ride or something fun on a 5th day, too.

I had a session with a personal trainer and she said 30 minutes of cardio 3 x a week with some strength training. The strength training builds muscle which burns fat quicker. BUT...the cardio workouts should be different each of the three days. Maybe the eliptical, then the treadmill or bike or stair climber. She said it's always good to switch up your routine to keep your body guessing and working. :)

30 min/3 days is more for maintenance though, no? I definitely need more than that. The 5 day/30 minute has served me pretty well...have lost 30 lbs since the end of June. But I just wonder if I couldn't be burning more actual fat if I did the 4 day/40 minute...I know that after 20 minutes you supposedly burn more fat, so it would seem to me that this change should make my workout more efficient. I would love to do strength training, but can't do much of that at the moment because of a rotator cuff problem I'm having to do therapeutic exercises for (hopefully it will improve enough before long that I CAN start strength training). Today and tomorrow I will do my normal 30 minute workout, I'll take the weekend off, then try the new workout, and throw in a bike ride here and there. Will give that one at least a month and see what kind of difference it makes. The hardest part is that it's going to require me waking up at 5am...which some days is a tall order. lol

Sounds like you have a plan! 30 lbs since June, that's GREAT!!! 5 am........good luck with that......lol. I just need to get motivated to start working out again. I was working out 5 days a week, then i went back to school (along with working full-time) and have a VERY active 9 year old. So i didn't have time to work out anymore and now i'm just not motivated. :( I am losing weight though, just by watching what i eat, but the healthier way to go, would be to exercise too.

Well...I have something of a plan, trial and error. lol 5am is only 15 minutes earlier than I already wake up for my 30 minute workout. Had to move it that early when school started. I wake my daughter at 6:30, so try to have my workout and shower done prior to that. It's actually worked out pretty well, I like having it done so early. Many mornings I'm not excited to get it started, but I'm always feeling better once it's done.

Right now my workout is just cardio, because of my rotator cuff problem. I do the elliptical. I have a tendency to get too ambitious and make my workouts too long...which causes me to give up on them because it's too much. I swore this time around, I was going to do just what I needed to do to be healthy and lose weight, and 5 day/30 minutes seemed to fit the bill. It has worked well for me...but I just question if I couldn't burn more fat by giving up one of those days and adding 10 minutes the other 4 days. So that's my experiment starting next week.
