Jillybeans 7's Journal, 09 August 2015

I am sooo looking forward to knuckling down to the 24lbs in 12 weeks Challenge starting on Monday 10th August ...... we Aussies measure our weight in Kg's so I'm actually aiming to lose 24 kg in 12 weeks. If I succeed that would bring me fairly close to my goal weight by Christmas!!!!! I just need to get over these sugar withdrawal headaches ~ and I will ~ I am in a really good place mentally at the moment ~ I've taken a positive view of all of the really hard things I have tackled ALONE in these past few years ~ especially giving up smoking 50 cigarettes a day cold turkey & then having incredibly frightening life threatening surgery & having to come home to an empty house ~ so, onwards & upwards ~ I AM gunna get this done!!!!🌹👍🌹

Thanks for the encouraging note you sent to me! Since turning 65 last month, I have determined to make the most of what I have left - but can we turn that "last quarter" into our "last third"?!?! Have you read the book Younger Next Year? I read it a number of years ago, and am just now re-reading it in the hopes of getting even more inspiration (last time it obviously did not "take"). The gist of the book is that exercise is the key (along with a reasonable diet). Aerobic exercise can extend our life, and strength training can make it worth living. Love the book. I have also started doing some of the things which had been put off for far too long! In addition to the camping, I have also started kayaking!! Have only been on 2 trips on the river. The first was about 4 hours of easy floating. The one yesterday was an 8 hour trek during which I hit the water 3 times! We all had a great laugh at my "learning curve"! The only injury was a skinned knee from some sharp rocks, so that was not bad. Hope to keep in touch with you - you sound like a delightful lady, plus it is nice to hear from someone my age. Take care, and have a great week!

Hi Big Belle, Thanks for your Buddy request ~ I'm just a little newbie on this site & so thought getting into a couple of challenges would be a great way of wriggling myself into a position that I can't back out of .... lol ...., we're not accountable enough but I'm tickled with this entire concept of journaling everything we eat & the exercise we do as well as sharing recipes etc..... Your kayaking/camping sounds like a hoot & I'm glad you had a great time ~ I went back to our local pool today to work out after an absence of three months because of a particularly bad bout of pneumonia I developed whilst recovering from my hip replacement surgery ~ it was great to be mixing with peeps again and finally doing some exercise instead of maintaining the sedentary lifestyle I have for so long. So the challenge is on ~ 24 lbs in 12 weeks ~ I haven't read the book you're talking about ~ sounds like I should in order to completely get my head around it's content ~ although my mother is 91.5 , plays lawn bowls twice a week, does water aerobics twice a week, line dancing once a week & something she very indignantly calls "exercise for old people"; she plays bridge and is in a Saturday night dinner Club ...... I think she will outlive me. Let's make a point of encouraging each other along & hopefully we'll be as bright & perky as she is at that age. Ciao for now and keep smilin' ......'Jilly.beans
