I want to live in a world where there is no supper!!!! I hate that question...the one my husband asks every single night.... Supper takes up so much time...coming up with the idea, going to the store if necessary, preparing, eating and then cleaning up. I'm convinced that supper is forcing me to eat when I'm not especially hungry. I'm eating because it's there. I cannot convince my husband that we don't need supper, because he is the type who won't eat all day and comes home hungry. I would be perfectly happy with a small snack around 5:30 but he seems to think that the children need to eat a meal... I would rather feed them something small and quick and spend the rest of the evening playing with them. :)

Coud you prep it earlier in the day? Eat a bit when you are hungry and just keep hubby company when he is ready to eat. It will give you time to connect and less time cleaning up after :)

schmetterling34 thank you for the suggestion. I could if I wasn't at work...It does work well if I prep the night before. I just don't always have the time or the energy, and I still have to come up with an idea. :) Unfortunately eating with young children doesn't give us much time to reconnect anyway...it's time spent trying to control the chaos. :)

Have you heard of those prepared frozen crock pot meals you can prepare ahead of time and then freeze till you need them. You would prep ahead of time like on the weekend, freeze all the ingredients in a freezer bag and then in the mornings take one out, pop it in the crock pot and apparently you have a meal when you get home. My family is not too fond on many crock pot meals so its not a great solution for us, but other friends rave about it.
