I have Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), which is a co-morbidity to diabetes. Heart failure is caused when fluids back up in the body, noticeable in swollen and painful ankles, which is called edema. This also means my water weight is always in flux. To compensate for the water problem, I am on Lasix, a water pill. Sometimes I loose 2 to 8 pounds of water a day. If I lost a lot of water such as 8 pounds every day, I would be in the hospital. Most of the time, I only loose about 2 or 3 pounds. Still this is hard on the heart and it makes dieting and exercising a bit more complicated. My goal is to prevent the CHF which means I must stop congesting my heart. This happens to cause shortness of breath, which prevents a good workout. Preventing CHF should make it easier to make my exercise goals. It's a tough pre-goal but it beats the alternatives.
