I have lost one pound since my last weigh-in. This is the first time in the past few weeks that I have not been gaining. I know all the things I have done wrong, including eating fast food and processed foods (I'm a sucker for Chef Boyardee, Ritz crackers, and Lays potato chips). The cravings I have late at night are for something sweet or salty or both. So hard to stay on track.

This morning I had for breakfast a scrambled melange of egg whites, two sausage links cut into small pieces, and mixed peppers. I also had 8 oz. of a Weightwatchers protein shake to which I added frozen blueberries. Great start. I felt full without a lot of calories. I did not feel hungry again until 2 p.m. Then I had a small serving (200 cal.) of Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meat balls with another 8 oz. of the protein shake.

I'm going out to eat with friends tonight. It will be so hard to order just a salad while others are having pork chops, chicken curry, or fish and chips. I'm writing this just to psyche myself up to make the smart choice. My goal is to see at least another pound come off by next week.

I'm heading out for an hour-long walk, my primary form of exercise. When I'm very good, I walk 10,000 steps a day. But my usual range is about a third of this.

By Oct. 1st, I'd really like to see progress towards my goal of 210 pounds. But it won't be easy. I can use all the encouragement I can get.
