madaboutmoose's Journal, 22 April 2009

The Joy is in the Journey not the Destination. I watched Peaceful Warrior last night, following the recommendation of my buddy Jim. It was exactly what I needed on so many levels. Do you know how a painter's walls at home are always the last to be painted or a plumber's pipes the last to be repaired? Well, my trade is similar. I often talk with clients about life being "process not product." I remind them that will never be "done", that the only thing that is predictable in life is change. However, when it comes to "ME" these "words of wisdom" become more difficult to digest. I have made a lot of progress in losing weight in recent months, actually years. And those of you who come read my journal have heard my struggle with thinking, with impatience, with wanting to "arrive." Of course I do understand to some degree that I will never be "done" with developing a healthy relationship with food and my body but I think I still embrace those ideas ... of "arriving" quite often. It is not negative to reach my goal weight. What is perhaps not so helpful is putting SO MUCH meaning to it. Today is much more REAL than that undetermined date in the future when my scale reads 175. HERE is what is REAL. So ... my journey continues and today I feel more at peace, relaxed, and less frustrated. The bonus this morning was the scale actually showed a loss!! The scale will no doubt show a gain on another day and a loss another day and so it goes. My contentment ought not be determined by the scale. I've gotten better with this and I will continue to practice. My friends here on FatSecret will help me remember. Thanks for the recommendation Jim ... I might just have to start referring to you as my therapist!!! LOL!!!

It is amazing how a little piece of metal/plastic can have such a hold on our lives. It's almost an addiction at times I think. Looking back on your weight history and seeing what you have accomplished - KUDOS to you girl, you have come an AMAZING distance. Keep up the awesome job and you should be very proud of yourself.

Thanks Mrs. H ... I actually am proud of myself!! LOL!! I'm feeling particularly at peace today ... which is just not like me since I haven't "arrived at my goal" yet!! BIG SMILES!!! Mom and I were talking this morning how the scale will always go up and down ... even when we do reach our respective goal "ranges." So, here's to not letting that little machine have such a hold on our lives. It's just a tool. A useful one at that, but still just a tool!! Again, thanks!

You are doing amazing!!!! 195 whoot whoot!! As I come closer to the goal weight I set I get excited about reaching a goal for once in my life but it is so much more than about the number. When I reach it I am making a new goal if I get to it great if not I have still come so far and have made a healthy choice for my life and that is really all that matters. I know you will continue to lose. Kudos to you!!!
