ddubia's Journal, 24 July 2014

Weird day. My morning sugar was 206. I took it again immediately and it was 201. About an hour later it was 186. Four hours later it was 130.

I don't understand the spike in the morning. I checked it before even drinking any coffee. Last night I was desperate for a cold drink and my water in the fridge had not yet cooled. I gave in an drank about a cup, maybe a cup and a half of 2% milk. Could that have caused it? dunno

I felt really bad today. Even after drinking only water and one cup of coffee I felt terrible. Tired, weak and mentally not sharp. I do have sleep apnea so maybe I didn't get any sleep last night. I called off work and went back to bed. I slept for 5 hours and woke up pretty much fine. I think that was it. That hasn't happened for several weeks.

I napped again later for 4 hours so I'm pretty sure the whole issue was lack of restful sleep. Still doesn't explain the morning blood sugar unless it was the milk.

Now it's 1:30 and I'm beginning to get sleepy so I'll take advantage of that and go to bed.

Hope you feel better. What you may be seeing is the dawn phenomenon triggered by carbohydrates late in the day. I also see a rise in my morning glucose if I eat protein as a bedtime snack. I don't know if lack of sleep would cause it to increase.
