I would skip the liquid diet but that's just me. I need food!!! SB is a healthy lifestyle not just a diet. You can ruin your metabolism jumping from one diet to the next (which is what I always did) until I found SB. The first 2 weeks are hard (not as hard as a liquid diet though). SB corrects your metabolism, sheds extra water and reduces cravings. Sounds like I'm selling the book!! I can't say enough positive about South Beach! I will make better choices for the rest of my life because of this diet! Even if it is thin crust pizza over thick crust or whole grain pasta over white pasta. All of it helps in the long run and like you...I have a lot to live for! Good luck!!
