A few tips from a visit to the doctor for advice while dieting:

1. Fat 9.2 Cal/g; Carbs 4 Cal/g; Protein 4 Cal/g; Alcohol 7 Cal/g

2. Okay to be on a 1000 Cal deficit diet; dropping too low is counter-productive since the body switches to a "starvation" mode!

3. Proteins trigger the sense of "being full" to the brain. Hence, a protein-rich diet is important. However, the process can take up to 20min; hence, eat slow and wait! Also, not all proteins are created equal - there are certain amino acids that the body cannot synthesise from others; hence a well-balanced intake of proteins is essential (corn and beans, or lentils and wheat, for eg.)

4. For fat-burning, one needs to maintain the aerobic metabolism phase which is indicated by the pulse being around 70% of the maximum heart rate or 0.7 x (220 - Your_Age)

5. If you have diabetes, make sure your blood sugar does not drop below 3M/m.

Interesting facts. I found n.4 particularly interesting. Diabetes complicates things even further than they already are...

Yes, the kind of exercise and the pace are critical to burn fat... As for Type 2 Diabetes, so far my experience is that exercise and weight loss are extremely helpful in keeping it under check. I have already succeeded in reducing medication! :)

I have a hard time with the calories. When I'm dieting most of the time I am below 1000 calories. I'm eating, but I'm eating healthy things that don't have a lot of calories. I did hear that you should keep your heart rate up for thirty minutes.

That's great Altendorf!

I am below 1000 calories. I know it's probably not healthy, but at the moment, it's what's working for me. I am at the point where I'm not really hungry. Maybe when I add exercise, I will be. I think at that point, I will need to add some carbs. I won't add a lot, but some. I want to get into the 180's before I add carbs, though. Dang, I can't believe I have to type that number. Grew up being skinny as anything. It's a bit embrassing, but I have to face it in order to lose it!

Jillzee00, don't worry about your present weight because it will belong to the past :) If that's what it takes to lose weight (bellow 1000 calories) then that's probably near your "maintaining" number. Make sure that you are not under-reporting some food like fruit, fruit juice or sauces. If you feel any health issue that might be malnutrition. Also be very careful with dehydration since we get a lot of our water from the food, and 1000 calories of food probably don't provide a lot of water. With those few calories, you definitely have to chose your foods wisely as far as nutrition goes so make sure you are getting all your nutrients! Exercising is great. If you start exercising you can almost definitely eat a little more and while keeping the same weight losing trend. :)

Thanks euheide. I can't say my caloric intake is 100%, as I have posted before, I use what is closest on here (salads, scallops). If I have the make, wrapper and exactly what I am eating, I will add that (adding all the information). I don't use any sauces at this point as that I feel that is added calories. I didn't use tarter sauce/cocktail sauce last night, I don't use salad dressing, I didn't use anything with the crabmeat. I'm sure I'm not 100%, but I think I'm pretty close. I am up to 60 oz of water a day, although on weekends, I don't do as well. I am hoping my salad has some added water--LOL. I haven't started an exercise routine yet (really mad at myself for this), but I am hoping to. I hate exercising by myself. I think I will be able to increase my calories in the long run, but right now, I think I am trying to trick my body and just get some weight off. I see my Doctor on Tuesday and will be happy to get my thyroid tested so that I am able to be on the correct dosage of medicine.

60 Oz of water a day is pretty good! I should drink that much but I always forget and have 35 Oz lol (but I also eat more so it probably evens out?) :) Exercising is great in the way that, once you start a routine, not only will it get easy but you will feel, not more tired, but more energetic instead, as long as this exercise isn't extreme. If it is light to medium aerobic exercise you will honestly feel better than you do right now. It's better than caffeine :) ! I wish you all the best with your thyroid treatment!

I think once it gets a little warmer here, I will get more exercise. They won't let my daughter join our gym until she is 13. I have until September for that. She loves to go to the park to walk, play tennis, play basketball and swing. We did that last time I lost weight. Right now--it's just so cold! I wish my hubby would go to the gym with me, but he is the unhealthiest person. There isn't anyone around here to go with!

It's harder to do exercise alone. That's definitely true but I'm sure you will immediately meet new people at the gym! :) Well, this is it for me today. I'm off to bed heheh! Have a good night yourself!
