ElMcC's Journal, 09 January 2014

I'm working on getting back on track. I got the scale out and began weighing my food. I decided that I prefer to measure in grams, instead of portions, because it is more accurate. For example, the bread that we buy is baked as a boule, in a wood-fired oven bakery. So, who knows how many calories are in a slide of that bread. All of the slices are different sizes anyway. But, if I measure the grams, the size and shape of each slide doesn't matter any more.
We are getting another ice/snow storm, so it isn't a good day to go out for a walk. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
I made beef stew with beef, onions, tomatoes and turnips (we didn't have any potatoes). I would have used carrots, but I am allergic to carrots and anything related to them. Any way, while cutting up the turnips, I tasted one. Turns out that turnips are crisp and sweet, and taste an awful lot like carrots. Turnip sticks would make a good substitute for baby carrots! Who knew?
