Okay...here's my 3rd attempt at FatSecret over the last 3 years. It's funny because when I started this the first time, I was about to graduate college. Now, I've been out of school for 3 years. I've lived with different people with different food related diseases, Type II Diabetes and Celiac Disease, and I currently live with my boyfriend who eats whatever I make...as long as the vegetables are scarce.
I finally started my dream job, a 1st grade teacher at a small rural school in Maine. I've worked my whole life to get here and now that I am here, I feel like I've never been more stressed and never had less free time. I know that the first couple years of teaching are the most trying, but I can feel the toll in my body.
I am the heaviest I have ever been. I was 3 months ago, too, before I gained another 10 or so pounds. I don't feel attractive and I worry about my health. I'm not comfortable in my own weight and I long to be back to the size I was when I started FatSecret the first time! Admittedly, I have made myself sick a few times after over eating, but I rarely feel better, so no need to worry about me trying to lose weight that way.
I used to run quite a bit. I actually really love it, but I hate running on a treadmill. Before I moved for my new job, I was walking and going to the gym a lot (2-4 times a week), though I wasn't losing weight. I plan on starting the Couch to 5K program, which is a new concept for me. I've never used a running program. I usually just went out and ran 3 miles from the get-go, because I knew I could previously do it. I know it's not healthy to go right out and do it so I'm going to try the healthier approach this time around. A friend and I want to train for a half-marathon to complete by the last quarter of the year (she's currently pregnant so we need to wait a bit...). Here's hoping my knees last and my I don't get sick again--a couple of years ago I was running up to 9 miles and then had a colitis scare.
AS for food, I'm going to make healthy substitutions so I can feel like I'm actually eating with my boyfriend. For example, he loves mashed potatoes so I'm going to make myself mashed cauliflower instead. I'm going to try staying with a lot of liquids for the first couple of weeks of my renovated food lifestyle so I can kind of "detox" after months of holiday treats and goodies. I am a label reader and am pretty savvy with research so I'm hoping a tasty, healthy variety of recipes won't be too difficult.
Here's hoping that I can find a happier and healthier me in 2013! Please feel free to leave any encouraging or helpful comments below. I do not need negativity if I'm going to try to make positive life changes :)
