After looking at the full month data for calories consumed, versus burned, and my weight for the month of July, I have lowered my RDI from 2500 to 1800. Big drop, but on the other hand, if the math is true, I should have lost 18 pounds in July...not just one. I will see how this goes. I don't think it will be a struggle, since I seldom ate anywhere near that 2500 cals/day anyway.

I get so confused by the RDI stuff. Maybe you can help me out by sending me a quick inbox message? Does it mean that's what we need to stay under? Or, is that the number we need to aim for? I've heard so many people say that we need to eat our RDI in order to lose weight, and others say that everybody can lose weight on a 1200 cal per day diet. So confusing!

I just took a peak at your diet calendar. Firstly, you're overestimating yoru calories burned. I hate that Fatsecret does this - letting people record things like "driving" and "desk work" as burning astronomically huge numbers of calories. They don't. FS overestimates pretty much every activity in terms of calories burned. It'll say I burned 500 calories running when my heartrate monitor will say 300. That makes you think you're in a deficit when in fact you are not. My advice -- just record ACTUAL INTENTIONAL PHYSICAL EXERCISE. Something that you can feel gets your heartrate up & works your muscles.

I agree with Jess. I also only record intentional exercise. Secondly, if I recalculate using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, my weight loss per month is pretty spot on. The math on it comes to within tenths of a pound.

I agree that the values that FS has for a variety of activities are WAY too high. And I absolutely agree that the exercise that I do that gets my heart going is more valuable. What is curious, is that the difference between my June intake and output came out much closer to my actual loss. So, go figure. I will look at the formula you suggested jenkie. I did some calculations the other day, and they were all over the place.

Jenkie, I just did the calculation, and came up with 1905 as my target weight loss calories. Go figure!
