We've just been for a walk into next door's garden. One of her big old evergreen pine's got hit by lightning last night. It has split down the trunk and a large piece has come off - just missing her house. The lightning then hit her alarm box - qhich is what the screaming noise was about - and busted her electric gates - one of which kept opening and closing and the other set just blew. So she's keeping the ones near the road closed and the ones on the drive open. Of course her husband has gone back to Hong Kong so she was on her own. It was 3 am when she got to bed as the alarm engineer had to come from London so it was 2 am when he arrived. The alarm box now needs replacing and she can't set the alarm until it's done.
