Deb_N's Journal, 06 October 2014

Hello! I was not doing very good at all with my health until I had a one hour session with a dietitian. We did not get very much done during that one hour, because she asked me a lot of questions about my health and wrote down everything I said. She even weighed me. After writing down the foods that I ate for two days, she looked it over and said I was low in protein. She recommended that I eat a little bit of protein at every meal and snack, not just at dinner. Another thing she taught me was to limit my carbs to 30 grams a meal and 15 grams for a snack and I am still working on it. I am not a low carb person, but medium carb. What it means is to be aware of your carbs and spread the carbs out over the day. Her encouragement to track my food helped me a lot because it meant that I could see my bad choices and decide to make healthier choices. Then I joined FatSecret, where I learned so much from the people here. Thanks for tips, support and comments!

I struggle to control my carbs daily. It is a battle I am still fighting. I think I have 50 or 60 grams of carbs at every meal. Yikes! I think you are doing really well on your weight loss. You only have around 4 lbs to lose. Congrats!

Good goals. I'm great at counting calories - not so great at making sure the calories count. Ha! That's the next step.

I don't want to gain back any of the weight that I have lost, so I decided that I am not going to get upset at other people and use food as a comfort. If I get stressed out, I go for a walk. If I was younger, I would jump rope or use the punching bag like a boxer. :)

I have a friend who uses positive affirmations to support stress free interactions with people who trigger a stress response. Her affirmation is "I am comfortable with who I am, I take everything lightly and find solutions easily." I kind of like putting a positive intention into situations that used to cause me to stress out. I seems to help with making better choices all around, eating included. J

Thanks, everyone! J, thanks for the affirmation. I will try that. Last night I bought a Kindle book about stress management. I thought it was a free book, but it was free for Amazon Prime members. Amazon charged my account 99 cents, but I'm not upset about it. I'm taking it lightly. :)

I find that the more I do my gym workouts the less stress seems to happen. I just find that less things bother me, my whole attitude is happier and more positive.

Not being stressed takes hard work... haha. But it does have benefits. I think the greatest compliment I ever got was the day someone called me a pollyanna :-) I think I struggled w/the carbs total back when I started because my doc told me to follow the diabetic (ada) plan and it seemed all of my carbs were taken up in the first meal (oatmeal). It's amazing how we seem to have to learn new things at this age but then I accept it's because the food industry keeps changing the playing field on us.

You continue to do well Deb, you're on the right path for sure. The kindle book sounds like it might be good, if so look at it as 99 cents well spent. :)
