Deb_N's Journal, 06 September 2014

Some people log their breakfast, then they get busy and never log anything else for the rest of the day. Or they don't log their food at all. If you cannot log all your foods, I would suggest to do it in increments. If you struggle to reach your protein goal, then log your protein choices for each meal. If you eat too many carbs, log the carb foods. Sugars too high? Weigh and log the fruits. Just a thought. Good luck, everyone!

Deb, I looked back at my logging in July and August and discovered I was doing the first art of the week and skipping the end. It really does help to spend a few minutes and log everything.

Logging my food is the first thing I do after eating, no matter how bad I fell off the wagon. Lately I am doing a few to many carbs, but I enjoyed what I ate. I have noticed that regular food is way to salty for me now and or way to sweet.

Logging my foods has always been the biggest key for my success - and FS has made it so much easier! Knowing that I *have* to log my foods is frequently a deterrent for making a bad choice "do I really want to log that where everyone can see it?" or "it's not even worth eating that if I have to go to all the trouble to log it in." That's just about how lazy I am. ;)

Logging the food is an essential part of my diet. It always surprises me at how quick the calories add up. Thanks Deb!

I really have to log all my food into FS. I found when I was lax...you can guess what happened...then I had THAT to lose. I log before I eat using what I have on hand to eat such as leftovers and other items that have to be used up before they go bad (produce). I tweak my logs as the day progresses but at least I have a template to work on. I really pay attention to the pie chart so I get close to the right amount of macros for carbs, fats, and protein. I gave up on the exercise logging because it was wrong. According to it, I should have been smaller than skinny :) Unless I do something out of the ordinary such as swimming, I just leave it at sleeping and sitting. I do a little walking and small weight lifting every day.

I don't do much with the exercise log, as it usually doesn't fit my life. I started doing it a while back and gave up, seemed pretty high.

The smart phone makes logging food in real easy. Logging in the food really helps- it makes me realize I was probably consuming 3000-5000 a day to put on the extra weight I had gain - now I am lot more aware of I am consuming

Hi Deb - I've enjoyed catching up on your journal and the tips you have. Congratulations on getting lower than your DL weight :-) I'm still on the fence about logging food ... I do that same game when I know there's RDI left. Good to hear from you and thank you for checking on me.

I try to log every day, only problem I have is when I mix foods ie: stir fry, salad & veggies, I don't know how to count a serving or certain dishes that are not listed in the foods list...So I just do not log that day...it is frustrating at times not knowing...

Great discussion. Thanks for the comments! I think people who log their food on a regular basis know they are eating the right portion sizes. It's more important for new members to log their foods so they will understand how much food they are eating. I did not know that I was eating more calories than I was burning in exercise. Logging really helps.

I have learned so much after I started logging all food I consume, I am addicted to it :-) I bought a kitchen scale so that I don't conveniently cheat myself...

Great advice, and from the looks of your weight graph, it really works! xoxox

Re-energize I have that problem too. I try to do a recipe in the cookbook. Sometimes I don't because it takes time or it keeps erasing things, that my be my tablet... so ill. Skip.

I went to Silver Dollar City last night and got home late, but I finished logging what I ate there this morning and the totals weren't so bad after all.

Wholefoodnut, I try to log every day, I have no problem when it comes to single good entries, ie: salad, some cauliflower and meat, ie chicken, pork or steak..it is the mixed foods I make that is very complicated to log.. anyhow I will try my best, also I like to know what I eat...in calories Not tracking can be very dangerous just because we do not know what we consume....right now things are working very well for me..just hope it continues...LOL

I agree sometimes it's simply too complicated to log.. I use a lot of veggies from oriental grocers that aren't listed so even more complicated.

I log everything that I eat, I enjoy logging it and I normally log it the night before, and check all day to make sure I am eating what I log.
