Jillzee00's Journal, 20 February 2014

Well, I went off my diet for a few weeks. Not good. I ate pure junk. Mom fell and broke her hip and I can't blame my eating habits on that. I can only blame it on my laziness and making bad choices.

I went to a new family doctor and I am now back on my thyroid medicine. I missed a couple of days (not used to being in the routine), but I've been doing better with it.

My biometric screening came back from work and it's absolutely horrible. I'm not surprised since I ate pure junk--high fat and with being off my thyroid meds (it was over 29). I'm glad that I had it done because that is what has kicked me in the butt and gotten me back on my diet--starting today!

I'm going to go about my diet differently this time. I am going to count calories and eat low-fat meals. I don't want to go as low as I did before. My goal is to eat smaller meals and eat every two to three hours.

I'm hoping to catch up with everyone tonight!

Sometimes it takes a slap in the face to get back on track! Count yourself slapped and welcome back! I also try to eat low fat/high fiber meals but have found that if I eat more often and smaller meals I am losing faster that just 3 large meals everyday.

Hope everything gets back to normal soon. I remember how hard it is when you have a loved one in the hospital. Your focus is on getting them back to health. Isn't it ironic how much junk food is available in a hospital?

Thank you everyone. It feels GREAT to be back. I know life throws planks at you at times, but was not ready for this one. LOL. Who is, right? I had my two/three weeks of craziness and it's time to deal with the situation! In looking back, I am trying to be healthier. I think my first attempt this year was too dramatic. It's not good to go to extremes. I started today by "cutting back." I haven't calculated my calories yet. I'll get to that after my journal. Instead, I tried not to be hard on myself and tried to make healthier choices. It will be interesting to see my final calories without counting them as I eat! Thank you to EVERYONE for the support and being there! Definitely need that slap, Kathy! I went out after work to buy healthy snacks to try to get me back on track. I can't go from eating whatever I want all day to nothing again. I like to snack, so made sure I had low cal/high fiber--I bought my l/f pretzels, fiber bars (90 cals), l/f yogurt, healthy popcorn, rice cakes, veggies and fruit! It's hard when you are on the run trying to eat healthy. The foods are there, yet I didn't want them! I want comfort food--esp with it being freezing cold! Instead of using stress to my advantage and not eating, I used it to eat--LOL. Fortunately, I didn't put it "all" on. I just want to Thank everyone and tell you that your support really does help! I'm so happy to be back here!

Good job on realizing for yourself that being too extreme doesn't work for you. I have always had to do plans that allowed normal food and took into account my sweet tooth. I, like you, just started cutting back and then documented after the fact. I was pleasantly surprised that I was pretty good with portion sizes. Also, with experience, I already knew what types of food items were the big calorie-busters. Overall, I think that people like us do better with just making healthier choices and sticking to something that we can do for the long haul. Welcome back and good luck to us all! My 4th weigh in is this Sunday and I'm excited.

I find when I am cold that I will get about 6 ounces or a small cup of coffee and sip on that and usually that will warm me up enough that I don't need the comfort food snack and then I get a healthier one. Have you tried the Oatmeal medley's yet. They are great and work as breakfast or lunch.
