Being sick can absolutely cause weight gain from inflammation as well as not being as active as usual and choosing more comforting foods. Your metabolism slows when you are sick and your body might be storing up some energy thinking that this could be a long, difficult illness (our bodies haven’t figured out yet that we don’t die of consumption and dysentery any more). Give yourself some grace and get back on track once you feel better. Eat more fruit and vegetables to boost your immune system and chug lots and lots of water.
