Day 11 of a planned 11 day fast
10 pounds lost in 11 days.
I actually gained a pound yesterday! I think I know what happened, while I 'only' took in 300 calories in liquids (yeah I know I suck at this 'water fasting'), I took in nearly 40 carbs in sugar. As Dr. Fung says in "The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss" - https://amzn.to/2sAbluO Insulin is the problem. Of course it is not a pound a fat, it is just water retention required for my body to store the glycogen. However, it is another example that, for me, weight loss is not a case of "calories in calories out" because I actually did a 3 mile run yesterday and walked 15k steps.
Of course calories still factor in. Reducing my calorie intake to only 1,175 calories over 10 days is required if I want a pound a day weight loss. However, If I took in 300 carbs a day I doubt I would have the same weight loss (look at what happened yesterday at only 40 carbs).
I fast not to reduce calories, but to control my insulin.
Fasting is 100% mental
I am glad I finally get to eat today! I am not hungry and all the adjustments to switching to fasting have long since passed. I just want to mentally feel the pleasure of eating :)
Yes, there is discomfort from the adjustment to not eating, but, unless I have a medical issue I simply do not need to eat if I have a BMI >20. I only need liquid to survive.
I posted the pictures of my current progress. As you can see I still have 15 more pounds to lose.
I will gain weight this weekend because I will have chips and salsa, a McDonald's Big Mac, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. I still plan to run 7 miles a day and 'try' to only do one meal a day.
However, after this weekend, I plan to start my normal Monday-Friday fast.
