Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 25 April 2018

Do I or Don't I? I need to decide if I'm doing the company 5K. I did it last year for my last job so I want to turn this into a tradition but I am soooooo out of shape. I'm probably 20 lbs heavier than I was. It would be motivation though. Motivation to start training and beat my time last year where I didn't train at all. I had signed up as a walker but it rained.. so I became a frantic walker/jogger/dying woman with short legs. I need to decide by the end of this week and I'm on vacation Thursday and Friday so that pretty much leaves today.

In other news. I've been MIA. AGAIN. In that time I started a transformation 90 program. Realized I'm in the worst shape of my life. At one point I worried I had gotten trapped on my back like a turtle. Not even kidding. The whole workout is crab kicks, crunch, stand back up, get back on the floor, flip over, flip over again, do something physically impossible for your body, ok now get back up. Adding the exercises to the up down over.. Heck just getting up and down and flipping over would have probably been a workout for me. Add 5 lb weights and well.. I became one of those bugs that gets stuck on their back and just kicks their feet in the air as it gasps for air and then dies. That was me. A dying, kicking gasping for air bug.. or turtle. Got to day 6 and got food poisoning which put me out of commission for about 4 days.

Yesterday I started over on Day 1 and it wasn't too bad. I didn't get stuck on my back. Sure my knees sound like rice crispies and my elbow locked up then creaked anytime I tried to bend it BUT I didn't get stuck in any of the unflattering positions I was told to put my body into. Oh and getting over food poisoning is kinda awesome because I can keep my food count where it needs to be without starving because my body is just grateful I'm feeding it again.

Yup.. that's my life. Tomorrow I have to take a teenager to the mall. It's their spring break and she helped out a ton while I was sick, babysat 2 days in a row, and.. I know this is completely unbelievable. I'm still a little shocked. She HUGGED me. She hasn't done that since the teen part took over. So I agreed to go buy her shorts that don't show off her butt cheeks. Wish me luck. If I never return it could be because I got lazy again and didn't write OR it's because I'm under a mall bench clutching my empty wallet sobbing and rocking myself.

I should probably add...

Yes my ankles still hurt on the treadmill. My new shoes suck and make more parts of my feet hurt. BUT.. I went walking outside yesterday with old crappy shoes and I had no problems what so ever. SOOOO yeah running in a 5K seems like a reasonable idea. HAHAHAHA

Loved this post! You are funny, and i can totally relate! I am the fattest and most out of shape ever, and seriously just trying to get up and down off the floor or turning over from crunches to planks is a workout! My big belly is in the way! Would love to know more about what 90 day program you did. I have aspirations to do insanity but i am not ready yet.

I broke down and got the free trial to the Jillian Michaels app. I only subscribed for the workouts. The one I'm doing now is her Transformation 90 program. The rest of the app seems pretty useless. It does have very pretty food in the meal plan. Like Ricotta Berry Toast and Curried Salmon Pita. So um yeah.. I'm paying each month for a workout program and to look at pretty food that I will never make because it would require me to go to the store and buy food that would probably rot after the first attempt. BUT.. I'm following a workout plan so I can't complain too loudly.

Of course go! Even if you walk fast, 5K takes less than hour 🙂 I used to do morning jogging 6K in 47min, but tested myself in 10K Lifeboat run and completed in 56min on a hot day almost without the water( poor organisation of the event).. So, you never know how strong and fast you can be until challenging. Good luck! You can do it! 💪✌️

Just want to add, for home workouts I would recommend Fitnessblender on youtube. Very nice training, different exercises and all levels. And for free)) To be honest I know number of people whose trying JM programs but with not success, then they go to Fitnessblender and very pleased with training.

You've done the hardest part ---BEGINNING! I wish you well on your endeavor, like the idea of a traditional 5k or some sort of marathon, sounds fun !!! Just not for me at the moment... (haha)--- As for the treadmill -perhaps replace with incumbent bike for awhile if your at a gym and able. This is how I started about 2 weeks ago. Additionally, dependent upon how old your workout shoes are - and if you are unable to replace them and the moment ---check to see if you can get a SPORT/ATHLETIC Insole....sometimes they can slide over top of your existing insole, other times they you may have to gently remove (tear out) the old one to make room for the new insole. Make certain you get one with Memory Foam (replace about every 3 to 4 months)...this minimizes expense on shoes immediately.....but eventually make certain you get a supportive running or cross training shoe ----I've noticed the really light weight shoes while comfortable for daily usage and look pretty with colors are usually not as supportive of the pounding our bodies take when exercising..... However, I wish you well and good luck with exercise and you Daughter !!!!! as I have a teen as well. ; }

I definitely agree on you taking up the challenge of a 5K, my colleague and I have decided to have a go at a 10K, it's definitely keeping me motivated.

Good luck! I hope you decide to do the 5K. Even walking, it does help with motivation to get out there and do something. I signed up for a 5K recently and it's helped me stay more active. You can do this!
