mamamc7's Journal, 14 December 2017

So I have been home a few days. Feel helpless and hopeless about this fire. So much devastation. I ended up eating junky today. I don’t feel guilty, I just want a gallon of ice cream and to watch chick flicks and cry all night. But due to the fire we have no internet and the power surges broke our heater... a super amazing man gifted us a brand new air purifier, so I am feeling less sick having less toxic air to breathe. My town has a long rough road ahead... 💔 and I will start eating better in a few days.

Diet Calendar Entry for 14 December 2017:

I empathise!🙇🏻‍♀️My sister lives near where the Chetco bar fire raged all summer and has COPD and is still fighting the pneumonia it instigated. And the Columbia Gorge fires up here this summer got my air. I only survived as well as I did because I already have two inexpensive Holmes air purifiers in my apartment (one kitchen and one my bedroom). I’ve cut and added activated charcoal filters to them both and they actually kept my in-house air really pretty clear. Clear enough that my asthma didn’t kick in. 🤷🏻‍♀️The small Holmes units are fairly cheap on Amazon. And you can pick up sheets of the filter material there as well and cut it yourself. Good luck! 🙆🏻‍♀️ Thinking of you. 🙋🏻‍♀️

Driving through Santa Barbara to Los Olivos last weekend I wanted to cry. We fled Solvang early Sunday because we could no longer sleep through the amber alerts. I hope CA heals soon!

@looped, it’s awful. These beautiful cities are charred and bare... I’ve been crying everyday, most of the day. And now with the fallen hero... ☹️ with a daughter and pregnant widow... 💔 my heart aches too deeply these days. But I am trying to get her s thumbprint necklace made and a quilt for her family and have it signed by his brothers and sisters from the cal fire. Because having a quilt signed by my daughter’s fellow firefighters helps her a lot.

So sorry for what you are going through. I know I was traumatized being evacuated in October due to a fire and the evacuation only lasted about 36 hours, so just one night away from home. Can't imagine what you are dealing with. Hope you stay safe and get home soon.

Oops! didn't read you've been home a few days. Hopefully, things will start to get back to normal soon. For me, I started feeling better as soon as we got some rain.

Hang in there. We're all crying with you on the loss of that firefighter. Towns can generally recover. Lost lives, that is such a very permanent tragedy.

Sending prayers your way. Not a time for guilt, but maybe a few small victories will make you feel a little better.

@mama I'm praying for you... and I love how you're looking out for others and helping those who have experienced loss in the fires. It would be easy to just feel sorry for yourself (which you're absolutely entitled to as well). Stay strong, you'll make it through this.
