jsfantome's Journal, 30 August 2011

When I evalute all things within the perspective of ..."am I happy with where I am now, vs where I was a year ago?" - the answer to that question these days...is no.

Why is that? Because I weigh today, what I weighed a year ago... which is a step backwards and in the wrong direction.

I am not all together sure why, but apparently, something began to shift and change since aproximately Feb 2011. Since then I have tracked more of an average pound or more a month GAIN... without being able to really bring that back down or under control.

So, I have re-read all kinds of articles and online resources - as if I was BRAND NEW and needing to learn about LOW CARB all over again.

What to do, how to do it, what to watch out for, etc.

I have read about stalls, plateus, and resistant losses.

And, I have developed a BRAND NEW approach for me to begin today.

I am starting over. Yes, really.

I am looking to be held accountable to this restart. I need to log my foods. Track my exercise. Account for my water. Reduce my caffeine. I will be looking to add Flaxseed Oil and Psyllium husks (don't know much about these but I will learn.)

20g's of Total Carbs
Eat w/in an hour of waking. Eat every 2-4 hrs / thruout the day
80 oz Water / Daily
1450-1650 Calories (ish) (not too overly concerned about the calories, as I do tend to remain active and exercise regularly)

If I can faithfully re-start w/ this two weeks CLEAN INDUCTION period, and still nothing happens... than I am going to be completely changing and revamping my eating plan.

THIS IS IT! I am not sitting on this fence for another year.

I know you guys are probably sick of reading about my re-dedicating myself to trying to make this loss thing work again for me... but my weigh in this morning was at 148. Not what I expected. Not what I have been working towards. I have been at this a long time, so if my body is going to respond, I will know in the next two weeks.

I will not be taking any supplements during this time, as I have no idea what fillers, etc., could be in them. But... I will go strictly by the normal LOW CARB way of eating guidelines... having used 3 or 4 websites/articles for dealing w/ stalls and plateaus - and their advice for Induction... And I will try again.

Don't wish me luck... just cheer me on... I know I can do this...I just don't know if my body - for whatever reasons - is going to participate in this endevor.

Much Love. (most of these ramblings - are just for my personal journal record... feel free to laugh at me if deemed necessary :)

While your weight has gone up I wouldn't consider it a step backwards. Backwards would be weighing what you did when you started, which is 50lbs more than you are at now. From my understanding, if your body gets too used to the foods and exercises you are doing, it will accept that as the status quo, and change doesn't happen. Mixing up foods and exercise hopefully will jump start fat burning again for you. 2 weeks is nothing compared to how long you've done this. You can do it.

Who could be sick of reading this. I think it's wonderful! Re-dedication is a commitment anew. You (and we, vicariously) can only benefit and learn from this. I KNOW you can do this. I'll be watching and learning, dear Paula.

Give me a P! give me an A! Give me a U! Give me an L! Give me an A!!! PAULA can do it! How is this for cheering you on! But seriously, I admire your determination, someone else might give up now and go back to bad old habits. Weight aside, how does your body compare to last year? Are you slimmer, do your clothes fit better, do you feel healthier and fitter? It's not all about the number on your scales. Have you taken any measurements? Three years ago I was about 4 lbs lighter than now but the same clothes fit better now. Don't lose your enthusiasm, you will work out a plan that works for you! We're all in this together and you have my support!

Yes you can do this, you are the most dedicated person I know. I don't know about all that water though. But you know what works for you. I can't drink that much, I just can't but you have been at this for a long time and if anyone can figure this crap you its you. Go Paula.

I almost didn't weigh in today, even though it had been 10 days and I didn't want to face the scale. Actually I agree with New MrsRando...every single day we have to rededicate ourselves to this. Every day I have to talk myself into exercising. Every day I have to think about what food choices I will make.

Paula - You are handling this so well - I'd be too frustrated to journal coherently. You will find your way out of this!

I have to take two teaspoons of psyllium fibre a day. It's non-nutritive (or almost, there are about 3 calories per teaspoon). It provides a lot of bulk. I take it with plain water. I've known people who take it with orange juice. Don't overdo it. A teaspoon at a time is enough. Believe me.
