Judyrose1997's Journal, 25 August 2015

I was 2 lbs towards my goal. Weight was since last weigh in 8/6/15.

Went for annual with new Dr. She was really supportive of all my changes. Even though slow...she feels weight loss good. She is sending me out for the usual labs and extraneous tests. Catch up as I haven't been to Dr in couple of years.

She was also very open to " fatsecret " app. ---I showed her how I keep track and she signed up to get an email.

She wanted me to go on "Portfolio Diet" for lower Cholesterol...but my cursory read on it is that there is way tooo much soy substitution for simple real foods. EX: Soy for reg milk. I will let her know what I think...in the meanwhile I will try the Mediterranean diet - in the alternative. Both allow for ample nuts. ...and olive oil...

I may have to consider this diet...but it will certainly be out of my cooking comfort zone...and the old man...is going to buck me on this.... :>). Thank God , I know he loves me....cause he will not eat soy, mushrooms or tofu!!!

I am extremely grateful that there is no increasing or new prescriptions for all that ails me. YOOOO HOOOOO

Medical doctors do not necessarily know alot about nutrition - they think they do but your own research is probably better. You have lost almost 30 pounds so I think you already know what works for you!

Medical Dr's do not get much training in nutrition. I recently had a good example with a potassium deficiency - the Dr. told me the best source of extra potassium is banana and cantalope and that was the only two foods she could think of. When I looked it up sweet potatoes and cooked spinach was way higher in potassium. Was your cholesterol really high? There have been recent studies that indicate high cholesterol is not necessarily tied to food...

I'm not big fan of soy, but soy milk tastes better than it sounds, although I actually prefer almond milk.

No Cholesterol is 130. Best if I got it under 100. Am aiming... Thanks for all your advice. Really reassuring. -J

You might want to stick to your guns about the soy.I used to do the soy but I have read that even some of the Organic soy is genetically modified, and that there is a difference between fermented soy and the products we buy in the supermarket. Here is a site I found useful---www.drmercola.com.
