Hello, everyone! Hope you are well. I've seen people here at FatSecret who have a really low goal weight, which is unhealthy for them. The metric system is so easy to know how much you should weigh. If you are over 45 years old, and 157 centimeters tall, subtract 100 and you should weigh 57 kilograms. Of course if you have a lot of muscles because you work out a lot, you won't be able to use this guesstimate. Please be kind to yourself and do not set your goal weight below a normal weight for your height. Normal BMI is 18.5 - 24.9 so if you set your goal weight to match a BMI of 17, that is too low! Not only will you be depriving yourself of food which has nutrition to keep you and your brain healthy, but you will be unhappy trying to maintain that unhealthy low BMI. The BMI calculator that a lot of people use is at iifym dot com website: http://iifym.com/bmi-calculator/
A chart that shows the BMI with height and weight for men is here: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/body-mass-index-bmi-for-adults
Does anyone know of a body mass index chart for women?

wholefoodnut - did you try those small tense units made by Igia? You can get them on ebay for around $20 a piece and they are great for toning your muscles even if you can't do much workout. Here's how they look like, but don't buy from Amazon, you can get them way cheaper on ebay. http://www.amazon.com/Igia-ElectroSage-8/dp/B0009RCDJK

@daybernt - It still doesn't make sense. If I were an athlete it should have a higher reading because I would be overweight as an athlete. Of course I could be missing something.

I know nothing about those. I just ordered a suspension training system similar to a TRX on amazon. I love using it at the gym and found a more affordable system that is all American made form WOSS. I should have it in the next week or so. My house is slowly turning into a gym LOL. My grandkids think it's funny and my daughters just shake their heads. They do say I'm lookin good. SIL's grandpa who I haven't seen for a year last week gave me a huge compliment saying that he was impressed at how fit and younger I was looking! He is kind of a flirt even if his wife since they were 16 is sitting next to him. She just laughs. His initial comment was WOW! you look good!

lldill - actually it's backwards. Muscle is a lot heavier than fatty tissue. As an athlete, you will look much slimmer than a non-athlete at the same weight, and your BMI (athletic) will be way lower. To give you an example, my neighbor across the street, same age as me, same height, non-athlete, weighs 128 lbs. She looks heavier than me and her waist is almost 15" thicker. While I'm 15 lbs heavier than her and look slimmer than her. One of these days I'll take a pic of both of us and you will have the perfect example of athlete vs non-athlete. Myself, by the athletic BMI my number is 23. Same as hers on the non-athletic BMI. To sum it up: as an athlete, you will weigh more than a non-athlete, while you'd look slimmer. If you calculate an athlete's BMI by the normal BMI calculator, they would appear as obese, when in fact they are far from it.
