Discovered that if I have one meal of just salad with an apple for dessert I can lose a pound or two per week. My problem is cannot do any running or skipping, cycling etc and cannot swim so progress is slow.

I can relate to the restriction in the exercise department. Sorry. But, you can do it with just diet. As you said, it will just be slower. Best of luck.

I have not eaten tomatoes for a full year now and am amazed at how free from pain I am in all the lower joints that were so painful and easily tired.
Now I regularly walk from town to home even carrying bags of shopping and do not have any pains nor do I lock up once I get home and sit down for meals like I used to.
I keep advising people with arthritis like pains and swollen joints to try cutting out all tomato/pepper/aubergine/orange/strawberry out of their diet but the universal answer is: I'm not doing without them even if they are making me crippled.'.
So I say enjoy your pains.

Nice weight loss! :) I have heard of people being allergic to "nightshades." I think some people are more sensitive to those foods than others. Definitely, the foods that make us feel worse should be avoided.
