FitOKay's Journal, 26 August 2014

Slacked off on food recording, but not going to worry too much about it.

Did some early holiday baking. Made 4 pumpkin pies and 8 gluten free pumpkin cookie bars (so our boys each have one pumpkin flavored treat per pie). They freeze up nicely. Then just take a thawed pie, 2 bars and a thing of whip cream to whatever get together comes up. Since I'm working weekends and teaching homeschool the weekdays this year, plus all the normal cleaning, appointments and etc I figured I would need a pie or few ready to go in reserve this holiday season. I also already made the chocolate lollipops and gingerbread house molds (just needs assembled) a couple weeks ago. Those freeze up easy also (just chocolate bars basically).

I'm nearly done with Christmas shopping and finished the Christmas knitting yesterday for us and finished the hat sets for our annual church drive last week. Got only a few things left to get for our family- I keep track of our gifts on pinterest Christmas Gifts 2014 Pin Board) so that my husband and I can both access the lists. However, we both come from large Catholic families and are blessed to have some very good friends so we have quite a few people on our list. Got 22 gifts bought, ready to wrap and give. 7 that are partially done and just need something perishable that we'll add a bit closer to time, for obvious reasons. 2 people I still haven't a clue what to get =p and another 2 kids on my husband's side we will draw at Thanksgiving. We have a board for that on pinterest too but it's private for obvious reasons ;-) I love giving gifts and love that people actually look forward to what we get them. I aim for $10 average person cost but put a lot of thought into what we get people and watch sales/clearance very carefully. So the worth of our gifts is normally much higher. This was one of my favorite sets we put together last year. It was for my husband's mom. She loves Willow Tree and always gifting it to others but never gets herself any. I found the grandmother and grandfather set for $15 together so made a set out of them with the picture and frame-

So anyways, it's not even September but I've got holidays on the brain =p Schooling starts 2nd of Sept so I want to get as much taken care of by then as possible- after that life is going to be very action packed for a bit!

Anyways, sorry not much on topic in this journal entry- mostly holiday prep related stuff =p

Dreamcatcher! I love making gifts when I can. Plus it's a great way to stretch our buck while still giving people personalized gifts they can use. I made up some really cute owl remote & magazine holding couch pillows this year for a couple of owl lovers on our list with some matching throw blankete- can not wait to see the reactions to those =). I used to get requests for my homemade soap to be included in gifts- but I quit making it, even for us, when my lungs got so bad. Even making it outside on a breezy day if I got just a whiff of the fumes I'd be in trouble. It's something I'd really like to start doing again now my lungs are doing better. Sweet dreams yourself!

Thanks HCB. The years I was sick sometimes I would be too ill for weeks or even months at a time to do things like bake for a coming get-togethers, go gift shopping for or put together the next day's lesson plan. So I learned to do these things way ahead when I could. If the pies were already made or worksheets printed and instructions written it meant it was still possible to do most the normal stuff. It's a habit I don't think I'm likely to drop now that I'm better, it's still a good way to help manage time resources (& save our sanity) during our busier months ;-)

Last year I made lip balm for everybody for stocking stuffers. It was a lot of fun! I'm gonna come spend a week with you to learn from the master.

FitOKay we are the same, I'm also organized like you. I do not make my presents but I already started buying some. When I see something nice and with a good price I buy it. I can't imagine going Christmas shopping at the 24. December. Everything good is already sold and it's a huge crowd of panicked people around LOL

Wait...you're almost DONE Christmas shopping?!?! Jawdrop! WTH? I haven't even come up with a single idea, yet, let alone started shopping. Truth be told, I've given it zero thought. :) I don't wait until Christmas Eve, but I do wait until at least November, if not December, LOL. Good for you!!

I agree Snezica! Last year my hysband wanted to go back to shopping during the holiday season since I was doing so much better. It was much more stressful and expensive then the previous years- even without the oxygen issues =p After that he agreed it was better to do it this way ;-)

Thank you SherrieC!

Nothing wrong with waiting NikkiJP, it's whatever works for you. I think I'd have endee up freaking out if we'd waited this year, though ;-) Having 4 gifts to get, 7 gifts to finish, one Santa request each per our kids and some shirts for my husband is MUCH more manageable to do then still all the boys and our christmas to do, 33 gifts to buy and several hat sets to knit for us and others =p

Okay I'm not sure if I want to be you or one of your children--I want multiple pumpkin pies in my house at once! What kind of stuff do you like to knit? I've been using Ravelry lately for ideas and found some really cute things as gift ideas. You've really got your life so organized and together!

MarrisaStewart, for the holidays I ussually stick to the normal hat, scarf, mitts. I did make up one baby girl dress & hat set for the church donations this year- but otherwise hats & scarfs. We've got two nieces &/or newphews due in february (my brother's wife & my sister are due a week apart) so I'm going to be working on some stuffed loveys, blankets and maybe some other baby stuff for them sometime in the future =p Lol on the pies.... I had some extra pumpkin mix so made up some gf pumpkin bread this morning- the boys have been very appreciate of that treat ;-) I've been goid and haven't eaten any yet =p
