I saw from371to184 post about this yesterday, and i didn't want to chime in and hijack his thread.

So... I am having my first colonoscopy this Thursday at 11. I am basically terrified. Because colon cancer runs in my family and i eat/ate a diet that is conducive to getting cancer anyway, i am scared.

I am going to be 53 in March. I should have done it long ago, but my life was in such chaos, i couldn't deal with one more stressor. But i am finding that my longtime life strategy of ignoring problems and hoping they go away on their own is hit-or-miss at best for results. My friends and sister have all been yelling at me to do this, and they are right. Rm is taking off work to come with me and drive me. He is really a blessing.

I am not psyched about any of it - the drinking of things, the sedation, the doc office, or the procedure itself. I remember when katie couric narrated her own colonoscopy live on today. Lost lots of family and friends (and my beloved dog) to cancer, and hospitals and doctors skeeve me out.

I am a little confused about how to eat low fiber. I am meeting a friend for lunch on Monday, and i wanted their killer avo cobb salad! I guess fruits, veggies, beans and nuts have become integral to my woe. I may just try to fast for longer.

I am hoping for the best, but mad at myself for the way i handled this (or didn't). I had a small health scare in May, and during it i was thinking how i really do want the chance to show myself that i can take charge of my mind and body, and that i can buckle down and change my life.

Anyway, it is on my mind.
