This morning while walking to no where on the treadmill, I began pondering a few things and thought I'd ask them of the good folks here...

Most everyone in the gym was wearing ear buds or headsets of some form. The question came to me; what's everyone listening to? Does the music help set the pace, or are they wearing the buds/phones to keep others from talking to them?

This morning, my mix was mostly symphonic metal, and music gets me fired up!

What's your music of choice, and does it help with motivation?

Sounds like quite the mix of tastes here! @371, I agree, no one seems to want to interact anymore. It's really quite sad, but now and then you get one in the gym that WON'T SHUT UP!!! @Mamamc7, perfume and cologne in the gym BEFORE a work out, um, no thanks, having to breathe hard enough over here as it is!!! We all have 1 or 6 like that where we WO

@crankbuzzard I avoid the perfume counters at the mall... so when people wear too much it’s pretty offensive and especially while working out.

I agree, if I can smell you from 6 feet away, you're wearing too much! However, there are also a few that NEED some perfume AND a shower BEFORE they get sweaty... Don't like those types either

I do listen to music while working out, mostly high-energy classical (Vivaldi, some of Mozart's faster pieces, etc) but the MAIN reason I always have my headphones in when working out is because I'm always using some app (or combination of apps) to direct my routine. Sometimes its just interval timers to keep my sets even during HIIT or simply the basic clock timer for resistance/weights. But sometimes I'm also following specific instructions for more complicated/dynamic workouts from Youtube vidoes or the Nike fitness app etc. So yeah, I'm listening to music usually, but thats just background; Idk how ppl DO workouts w/out at least timers; I've tried things like counting reps and, without fail, I always lose track within like one or two sets. And the like two times ever I tried to do a specific routine off like a blog, w/out a video/audio real-time walkthrough? I dont think my heartrate ever even got elevated due to how frequently I had to stop and check and re-read what/how I was supposed to do next/precede lol.

I don't have a headset to listen to anything at the gum, but when i used the treadmill at home, before my right knee got where it needs to be replaced, the music i liked to exercise to was classical; my favorite being Ravel's Bolero. The tempo changes are such that it really keeps me from slowing down, because i tend to walk to the music.

Doing cardio classic rock or country on the machines either classical guitar or meditation type music as it slows me down and I concentrate on form and smooth movements.
