Annie42's Journal, 03 March 2016

Not getting on the scales any time soon. It has been a week of eating food that is convenient, fast and zero-cleanup. Salads are out.
Since getting clearance from the insurance adjuster to move forward with excavation of our burned house, it been 'life in the fast lane'. I've been working at a site with no electricity; a port-a-potty, and trying to deal with three children. Yesterday was a very bad day for my teenage daughter to have come by the site. She was so excited about getting her summer job, that she drove to her grandparents house, then up to our (former) house, and when she got there, all the existing walls had been demolished and the excavator guy had dug out the remains of her bedroom. She just stood there in tears. She immediately saw the melted, charred remains of a stuffy doggie that her BFF gave her on Valentine's day. Her whole bedroom set, which had belonged to my parents, was gone. All her favorite pictures and letters from Grannie and Popie were gone. EVERYTHING was gone. She left the site, went to Wallyworld for a couple things, and ran into my SIL. She just broke down bawling in the store, and my SIL called me to tell me. From there, my daughter went to the ski hill. At that point, I knew she'd be alright. In her world, skiing makes EVERYTHING better. She always repeats the line from that Cymbalta commerical..."Depression Hurts. Skiing can help." She's better today, and has to teach lessons until 7pm tonight. Poor baby. She had so many memories of my parents in that room. Actually, all of her memory items were in there. I feel for her, and it breaks my heart.
But, this was hard for even me to handle for a littlw while. I could not find my mother's diamond ring, or mine. The vast majority of antiques are completely destroyed. And, this all happened on my Mother's birthday. She'd have turned 90 yesterday.
The victory in all of this recent emotional drama is that I have not emotionally eaten once. Not once. Whatever I've downed, its been as fuel only. So, while the weight has not peeled off as I'd have liked, its not become a runaway freight train either. At this point, I will take and relish whatever victory I can....and that one in particular is golden.
Back to the site today, to sift through and move forward. Have a blessed day all.

{{{Annie42}}} Sending out a hug to you and your family. I can't imagine the hurt that comes with losing those memories, BUT your post tells of the strength and courage it takes to move forward. I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Pat from MN

Such a tough loss for all of you, pictures and treasures items from loved ones cannot be replaced...however well done to carry on and be thankful that you have each other. Please share with your skiing daughter (I have three, all grown up now)...I have a tee shirt that says "Education is Important....but Skiing is IMPORTANTER!", words to live by....or maybe not :-) Take care!

Thank you for your kind thoughts, hugs, and prayers everyone. I love the skiing tee, Steven! She had a skiing themed tee-shirt years ago-- it read: "My homework is going downhill." So true for her. She landed a 180 off a high jump yesterday, and is going for a full 360 today. Landing those perfectly will make all things right in the world, if you ask her. Seeing her contagious enthusiasm helps me to know she will be alright through this.

Your strength is an inspiration, Annie. I hope you have someone to watch over you and share this tragedy. Go with God (or your higher power)
