Revaudrey's Journal, 13 November 2015

am having good success... because of good, hard work. Have managed to lose 17 lbs since mid September and am only 9 away from my goal weight. I have hoped to get there for Christmas, but should probably re-think my goal for Jan 1 or mid-Jan? Those last 5 or 10 are SOOOO hard to lose and we have a lot of travel coming up.
The biggest key for me is the loss of sugar and bread and alcohol in my diet. When I do my “100 days of No drinking and No desserts,” the weight comes off. I haven’t given up bread entirely, but limit myself to one serving (usually at dinner) of a “starch.”

My calorie count is set at 1400 but I usually keep it at around 1200 and I am trying to exercise 5 days a week which, right now, means walking in the morning for 40 minutes around our neighborhood. We are moving in a couple of weeks and then I can join a gym again!

Of course, this is my 3rd time through losing the same 30 lbs on FatSecret and probably the 6th or 7th time in my adult life. I’d love to find others who need help maintaining and avoiding the yo yo syndrome which is my biggest problem. I know that it goes deep: deep into regard gin food as a reward, food as joy, food as the center of my creative life ( I used to be a restaurant chef). I can diet to beat the band, but I haven’t adjusted my psyche to replace food as a treat, reward, etc. I am a clean eater. Haven’t touched processed food for years. Hope to have chickens when we move...

I think the problem is with the very rigid diet choises. In order to loose and maintain weight you have to change your habits in a more gentle way that works for you. 1200 cal a day? And 5 days of exercise? Plus I guess you have a job? Your body needs more than that. Your mind needs more than that. With this tempo, you are starving your body and mind, and depend completely on willpower. Willpower doesn't last forever, it will backfire and you will bindge and get everything back, and more.... I would advice you to examine yourself more often, what triggers you, what makes you happy, when do you overeat, and find ways to go over that on your own healthy way.

Congrats, Revaudrey! I'm just now getting back to losing the same 20 pounds that I keep losing and finding. I think maybe I like dieting. I keep it off easily for awhile, then it gets harder to hold the course, then I say the heck with it and eat whatever I want and then I get depressed and then I say hey! I'll go on a diet. that will make me feel better. So i'm at the end of that cycle now, feeling better because I got started and thinking the challenge will be fun. What!!!??? Fun?? Anyway, you've been at it since September so I will take great inspiration from that. Thank you.

I too am struggling with the same issues. I'm trying to retrain my brain on portion sizes. I put all my full size plates up out of reach and am using the desert plates and condiment bowls for my meals. It has helped. That way I can eat what I want, just in smaller amount. The trick is to fill up first on water, fiber such as salad or soup. That way I won't want to eat the seconds or thirds as much.
