Our minds are funny, aren't they! I reached my goal, and immediately, thoughts of all the food that I had been avoided flooded into my brain! It's as if my mind accomplished what it wanted and, since we are done, we can go back to how things were.

Not that I will let this happen! But the mental process of switching to maintenance mode has been eye-opening. It does not help that I spent Saturday at the Bacon Festival nor that we had friends over for dinner on Sunday. I cannot lose all the progress that I have made, not only on the scale, but in developing healthy habits and undoing bad ones. This will continue to take some mindfulness...

Mmmmm . . . bacon!! Yes, even maintenance mode will require some vigilance -- I'm not there yet, but I liken it to merely 'loosening the reins' just a touch, without falling off the saddle.

So are you happy with 145 or is this just a pit stop? (I use the muffin top/jiggly fat test as a measure of doneness.)

The 3rd Annual San Jose Bacon Festival... I had visions of entering the gates and being greeted with a crispy slice of bacon and then continuing to eat bacon-inspired goodies throughout the afternoon. What it turned out to be was a large collection of food trucks serving bacon dishes. (There was also music and craftspeople and kids' activities to amuse us.) They had a lot of meal-sized dishes and almost no snack-sized portions. There are only so many meals one needs to eat in a given afternoon. Ironically, we left after several hours wanting bacon--apparently we had not gotten satisfied with the festival offerings. My favorite part was a small boy who was dressed as a slice of bacon! :)

I am pretty happy at 145. My plan will be to get down to 140 and attempt to maintain that. Then, when life's little whims rock the scale up or down, I will remain below 145.
