Good morning FS friends

It has been a busy week. This is the time of year to get the garden beds ready for winter, establish new ones, enlarge old ones and to move/split plants that have thrived and are now oversized. Some see Fall as an ending of summer, the start of the end of the year. For me, Fall is a beginning. The framework for building what will be next years garden. Bar none, my favourite time of year.

I suppose this weight loss journey bears some resemblance to Fall. By making changes now, it sets the stage for what is to come in the spring and for that matter, the seasons/years to follow.

It has been a week of learning as well. I joined a 90 day Group course "Why Love Matters in Weight Loss" led by Sandra Elia that is targeted to food addicts. It is a body and mind approach to healing a broken relationship to food / diets / emotions. What is really good about it is that it is helping to shape how I view and cope with trigger foods, strategies to combat cravings, how to identify times when food is being used for something other than sustenance. The bottom line message though is the self love component of loving oneself enough to take care of our beings. There is a great deal to internalise still and we are only at day 13 of 90.

As it happens, a book I've had on hold through Libby (virtual library) became available. "Ultraprocessed People - The Science Behind the Food That Isn't Food". Author Chris Van Tullekin. Still on the early chapters, but what I'm reading is freaking scary. I can't believe that I mostly ate this junk prior to starting this journey.

Yup 2023 is turing out to be a huge year of change and learning and I feel all the better for it.

Over and out

I'm not an all or nothing kind of person, so I won't rule out ever eating highly processed food, but I definitely avoid it as much as possible. The more I do, the better I feel. The funny thing is, when you get away from it and eat more whole foods, processed foods frankly taste kinda gross. At least that's been my experience

Great, informative post @Ann! The 90 day journey with Sandra Elia, sounds intriguing! Fall has also kept me busy with outside work, love it!

Hey Writingwyo. So true. Not sure why I ever thought potato chips were yummy. After seven months of predominantly clean eating, I find them to be overly salty, greasy bits of disgusting and am shocked that I ever found them to be palatable.

I really enjoyed reading this post. I have struggles with disordered eating in the past, and truly feel changing my relationship with food and myself was key to recovering. Thanks for sharing your readings and learning this far. Very fall like day where I am today (felt like summer up until now!) so I think it’s a good time to prepare in many ways for the months to come and spring.

That’s awesome to educate yourself on this stuff. I currently have the same book on hold at my local library and I’m very excited to read it

Spring is my favorite season. A lot of Fall here is like Winter.

@annisworkingonit .. It's a great idea to educate ourselves about our food and to establish a healthy relationship with good food. Great post. Thanks for sharing

The amount of money spent on the science of making ultra processed foods hyper palatable and addictive is insane! 💸
