LadyinDenim's Journal, 22 September 2023

On Days 2 & 3 of fasting, I think about food a lot. The smells of my husband's cooking and the pics on here inform my menu plans for eating days. Someone's picture of a Reuben sandwich grabbed me and I hit the interwebs looking for the best reuben sandwich in my city. There was a Reddit thread about it and one of the best places is 2 1/2 miles from my house. I asked hubby if he would take me there on Saturday. The sandwich is served with fries and you can substitute soup or caesar salad. Fries are not a must-have food for me and the sandwich will be plenty filling, so I'll opt for the salad. I'm going to the food diary now and do my best to enter the kcal. If it's too high, I'll skip breakfast tomorrow so I can really enjoy my favorite sandwich without worrying that it's taking me off plan.

I do a lot of the same planning for splurges but I bet that I don't do as well as you do. I often cut back on breakfast and snacks if I know I will be eating out. I have to be so careful as I am in remission from diabetes.

I accept that I need to have a plan and be honest with executing the plan. I don't consider eating out tomorrow as splurging. I am able to eat the reuben, caesar salad, and breakfast while keeping kcal under maintenance. I do have "feasts" planned where I intend to eat whatever I want without logging, and staying in these parameters: 1) eat only between 10am and 6pm, 2) eat 2 or 3 meals with no snacks 3) avoid binge foods and eating beyond satiety (so no kettle chips dipped in sour cream in front of the tube, no Fritos with both bean dip and cheese dip, no Caramellos, no seconds when I'm not hungry) 4) record daily weight when possible. FS gives me a place to state my intentions. Thank you Draglist, Deb, and Mirticia, for your support and caring. ❤

And thanks, buenita. You are the reason I eat sweet potatoes 2-3 times a week 😅

I would suggest no bread. It’s still really good without. Some rye seeds do help you not miss the bread flavor.

Upchurch, is avoiding bread part of your WOE? If so, you are in good company! Many FS users choose to leave bread out of their diets 🙂 I choose to eat bread in measured amounts, despite its minimal nutrient value and high glycemic index.

I eat bread also, but then, I eat everything.

Since beginning this calorie-counter journey, I’ve learned that swapping “junk” foods for “healthy” salads isn’t always the healthy substitute I think it is. Salads like Caesar — dressed with creamy dressings and cheese — can easily have as many or more kcal than those fries I gave up.

I feel like the devil for posting that pic now. 👿 lol

LOL Phil! You and Drag's picture posting sets me off frequently...but not in a bad way, you just give me inspiration for meals and I adjust and modify to suit my goals. It's not a bad thing...except for the fact that I can't locate any jalapeno cheese sausage that looked as yummy as yours!
