Lately I feel like I am veering toward an off-world planet, a Hale-Bopp type loonie, a modern day Icarus. Lately, the highlight of my days has been my twice daily baths. I do love a clean body and it is my hydrotherapy, but, I felt maybe I should make human contact again so here I am. I don't count hubby as human. We are like two old dogs giving each other fleas/Covid/whatever, while occasionally snarling at each other and fighting over food. Sounds awful but true love isn't always pretty. At our age any day we wake up is good. Hubby has metastatic cancer. I have diabetes but am in remission. Other medical problems too. Right now hubby and I are into our Medicare Wellness frenzies, where your primary care physician wants to make sure that every orifice you have has been probed. I try to find joy in each day. Some days are harder than others, like days when too much probing occurs. Hubby just had 3 medical appointments in 24 hours - radiation oncologist, chemo oncologist, chemo injection. Plus we had to go to 5 (maybe more - who can remember?) other places for wildlife food, people food, get gas, plus a new window A/C since ours is limping. Hubby says it smells like a mouse died in the old unit. Oh goody because we are going to take the old one out today and put the new one in. I'm exhausted already. Sleep was fleeting last night. And, I am a super-smeller/sniffer and super-taster which drives hubby to his own off-world planet. I won't taste the mouse, hopefully, lol, but I can't help smelling it. I don't like stink and dread the dead mouse thingie. We are just two old geezers, hard of hearing (huh?), who can barely see, who splat on our faces occasionally, but we will do this air-con switch on the hottest day of the year if it kills us because nothing matches the hardness of our heads. Diet and exercise? Not talking about that today. We have other priorities - like getting my cool back so I can get some sleep. Off topic, I would like a goat and love this one but it would probably cause me to crave more Mega Stuffed Oreos.

I’ve been feeling pretty shitty lately but this post had so much humor in it, I finally laughed out loud for the first time in a while. I thought it was a MamaShrew post at first! I like the realness in what you wrote. Anyway thanks for the laughs. Also glad you’re getting a new ac so you don’t have to smell that!

I can see why this goat would make one think of oreos!:) Love your sense of humor, and how true it is that "true love isn't always pretty"! I'm sorry your husband is going through this battle with cancer--hope he'll see some success soon.

Love the goat… would make a great new family member. Can eat grass saves on yard maintenance and can massage your back when you do yoga😂

Thanks MattRide. We got the A/c in without too much loss of blood. So glad to have given you some fun - it made my day, Neicy Can. Thanks, Agnes. We both stay positive as much as we can. Captyani, lol, yes, I need that goat, but hubby thinks he is the only old goat I should have. LOL.

Great read, glad it's not just me and mine....Totally loved reading this and giggling. Yeap been pretty rough few weeks for many. Our end was AC (in Louisiana with 118 heat index at our biz), during dealing with that for a week a rock busted passenger side window, then yesterday someone backing out of parking lot "didn't see me" -- no s**t Sherlock. It's the universe, smoke from wildfires, hard to see the brighter out somewhere. Best to you and keep entertaining us with your humor. Hope you all start getting good vibes soon.

Can't sleep unless the window unit is on. I too am a super smeller.. We are grateful to The Great Father for each day. Suppose we would be considered geezers as well. Doing the very best that we can 🙂

Loved the honesty in your post. My husband and I go thru fazes too. We are retired and spend a lot of time together. We have a comfortable routine. He is my best friend, supporter, soulmate but I still need my own time so we came up with a plan. We do our own thing in the morning, ( for me it's going to gym, chores, errands, hobbies) and then we have lunch together, after lunch I usually walk ( if not to hot) and Joe does whatever he does...We come back together around 2 or 3 and then we usually have errands or stuff we can do together until dinner....it works for us. We also make sure we make time for friends. Sometimes together, sometimes separate. Oh and my husband is a super smeller. Not so much for me..

Rcguenth, some people think anyone over 25 is a geezer. An older woman I worked with said that old if always 10 years older than you currently are. LOL.

Unity 1234, I'm a retired critical care nurse so I have had plenty of inspiration.

Diana, my hubby and I are loners who live together. He has his pole barn where he keeps busy and I have the house and we come together at intervals during the day, like you.

Well, Hale-Bopp type Loonie, eh? My 80 YO husband is pretty confused and hard of hearing, so we're never sure is we're on the same wavelength, etc.

Since me and mine are at much the same stage, I can giggle too. We are both retired as of 2.5 years ago. I the last 50 years we have had to reset our relationship several times. Hubby trucking winter and farming summer with me raising 4 kids. He was home weekends and thought he needed to have input. Moved to bigger town and both went to regular jobs but his was weekly rotating shifts or 12 hour shifts. Amazingly we didn't kill each other.. It was close a few times. Decided we were going to work it out or die trying. Both quit our jobs, bought a semi tractor and started team trucking coast to coast. 10 years later we didn't even like to go to the store without the other. Life struck again! He went back to his old job and I took a series of 3 extremely demanding jobs. We were back to meeting on the road. He worked nights and I worked long days with on call nights. And then there was Covid! Working from home for me. He was still in the Mill as they could limit contact. The world was just too crazy and uncertain! Mom and 2 neighbors died. The end, Retirement was the answer. Now we're finally working out how to be together again. I agree on the, have to have your own space. I think we are finally making progress figuring out what that looks like. It's definitely tougher as we get older. Thanks for the giggle! Sometimes we forget to be Thankful that we have someone that gets why we're contankerous and grumpy. They love us in spite of the Prickliness!

I'm sorry to hear about the metastatic cancer; so sorry.

Inspiration is just a way to fill up your cup. I like museums, nature, reading and all things creative. Everyone has aspects of life that remind them that right now they are alive. Goats, Oreos, whatever floats your pontoon boat.😉
