I've been troubled by the fact that the body fat monitor on my scale has been giving me numbers in the 50% or higher range. That is really high for my weight. I weigh first thing every morning...I've seen it dip into the 40's, but usually it's in the 50's, even after having lost more than 20 lbs. Well, I was researching these scales on the internet this week, and read that the best time to use this particular gauge is in the evenings...5:30 to 7:00. I have no idea why, but decided I would try it. I went from a 56% reading in the morning, to a 45% reading in the evening. Obviously I much prefer the one in the evening. lol 45% is much closer to what my body fat percentage should be, given my current weight of 210.2. This newfangled technology...what did we do without it?

The reason you probably got a better reading in the evening than in the morning is probably a hydration issue. When you first wake up you haven't had anything to drink yet so your body isn't as well hydrated as it is over the course of the day. Hence your % of water weight is much lower and that has to be factored somewhere. I'm glad for you that you are makeing such good progress. Whatever your doing keep doing it.

Thanks beatlesfran. I sort of suspected it was a hydration issue, but wasn't sure. My scale also measures hydration, and I had noticed that when my body fat was registering higher, my hydration levels were registering lower. That's good to know. I think I will continue weighing in the mornings, but will get my body fat percentage in the evenings from now on.

I have got to get me one of those scales. I didn't know they could do so much. Where did you get yours?

My husband picked this one up, I think he bought it at Wal-Mart. It's brand is Health-O-Meter.
