Will discuss this in greater detail next week (maybe)...LOL...I Am beginning to believe "Boredom" may be a complicating factor in long term weight loss. Some folks get bored with eating the same things over and over (my nutritionist says this is more true for women than for men.) Also, as time goes on, for most of us, it is just NOT as exciting to see a 1 lb. loss (in a whole week) as it is to see a 4 OR 5 lb. loss...(AND this does NOT even address how we feel when we just STAY THE SAME or...GAIN!!!...although GAINING should NOT lead to BOREDOM...LOL...panic... maybe, but NOT boredom) LOL... Also, as some of our FS Buddies "give up and leave"...or at least take extended vacations from FS...and other FS Buddies ACHIEVE 100% of their goals, THEY are on FS, less and less, (if at all). So, we lose the "excitement" of their positive affirmations.... Please know, I am NOT "blaming" anyone else...But I am realizing that even on days I feel less "excited" (less motivated) OR maybe even a little "bored"...it is MY responsibility to "KEEP ON CLIMBING" the mountain to better health. Thanks for all of you who are "Climbing" with Me!!![

it is not weird that "cleaning" is great therapy while trying to lose weight! monica from the series "friends" got it all right!

You bet, SSTT! Glad to be on this climb and unless you are doing some extreme things, making big changes in intake and output 4-5 lbs a weeks is not usual. On the initial start we see larger downward trends because our bodies are feeling a big change. When those changes occur loss is almost always greater. But over time our bodies metabolic rate start to level out and get used to that lower intake or greater workout expenditure thus the lowered drops to an average of 1-2 lbs a week which every doctor and nutritionist I have ever spoken to say is the safest losses and least likely for us to regain that weight. Because we get used to these changes. Changing things up more exercise, less exercise, different exercise, changing caloric intake up or down, adjusting our carb/protein/fat ratios even for a few days can wake up that metabolism. But there are so many great foods out there you can eat so you should not get bored. Go on Pinterest and look for recipes that are on your plan. I bet you can rejuvenate your enthusiasm and maybe even jump start your weight loss again. Love the climb with you! It is one heck of a view from the top I hear!

This losing weight and getting fitter is a long term process. We want things "now" and quickly but that's not what happens here. Slow and steady is really the best way. What has helped for me has been to view this a a life long journey. There is no end date or finish line - the goal is to stay on the path, if I stray some then get back on track but just keep going. That takes the urgency away and helps me to focus on just keeping on the journey, adjusting as needed as time goes on because things do change some when you've lost a lot of pounds. Maybe it would be helpful to set some attainable short term goals like losing 5lbs, 10lbs, etc. Meet that goal and then set a new one. Break down a longer journey into shorter parts with milestones along the way. You can also set other goals rather than just lbs - such as increasing activity or exercise or doing specific things x times a week...stuff like that. We have to find our motivation....what is it motivates you? Focus on that. You have lost about the same amount of weight since January that it's taken me 15 months to lose! You're doing well, keep at it, and have a great weekend!

I agree with you - I think it is about acceptance and patience - coming to understand we are making a lifestyle change over the bigger picture - if we make a good choices to the best our our ability each day - we get to our best place.

I can definitely relate to what you have to say. I try to visit fatsecret once every other day or two but sometimes I slack off when I get a bit busy or I am tired.

This is a lifetime journey that doesn't end just cause I reach a magic number, well for me anyway.

I'm with Skwhite, this is a forever thing for me. I say that now, but in the time I've been on the Internet since it's infancy, we've evolved into all sorts of different forms of communications. Web sites were rarely this interactive, we used to have BBS's before the Internet, and then IRCs, and group IMs, forum boards and now sites like this. Who of us mortals know what tomorrow will bring? I'll be a part of this community or what ever one replaces it.

Thanks so much for sharing HCB, Maria, and Frosty...and I agree with you SK (and others) this IS a LIFELONG journey...I will be eating mindfully and on-plan the vast Majority of my remaining days on earth...and NOW that makes me feel energized INSTEAD of "sorta sad" as it did when i started this journey almost 4 years ago. Have a blessed and peaceful and enjoyable Sat and Sun. everyone!!!!!!!!

i'm still 16 lbs away from my goal, but your thought did cross my mind...that's why i'm trying to make friends and want to stick to the community! I never want to go back to being fat and big, tight pants!! :)

For me this has to be a lifetime journey not a diet plan. Osteo arthritis and several old injuries make it mandatory for me to exercise and keep the weight off to remain healthy and active as I get older. I can understand getting bored eating the same things. I love love to cook and do a lot. I think it's interesting to learn about different cultures through their food and to learn to cook in many different ways. Healthy foods, no matter what your plan, do not have to be boring if you go exploring and try new things. My kitchen's pantry has changed dramatically through this journey. Exercise is often hard to squeeze into our busy lives, I know that it is hard for me. The gym doesn't always fit my day, even if I love going to the gym. I have collected some in-expensive equipment for my home and have discovered youtube videos, there are some really good ones out there, some bad ones also. As most of you know I'm at my goal weight but working hard on the fitness angle. Do new things, try new things, enjoy the process and relish what you learn on this challenging journey. Challenge yourself to be a little bit better in some way everyday and to learn something new everyday.

I get bored really easily. The answer for me seems to be lots of short-term goals, plus changing things around as much as possible, plus it is fun to meet all of you lovely people on here. I also plan to make it a long-term thing, as I'm a terrible back-slider, and really don't want to lose weight only to gain again. I'm doing various of the challenges, and beginning to see it all as a team effort. In fact I think it may be at least as much fun to see others succeed as to succeed oneself?

Sorry, posted twice because my internet is very slow today, and I hit the 'post comment' button a second time. That's how quickly I get bored!

Stay the course. You are doing well and have the determination you need. I enjoy reading the journals of the member Rob.C.Weiss, especially March 31, 2014. :)

Heidi, have a Way of Life plan that you can stick to for life, not a yo-yo diet where you are forever gaining then losing again. It is not healthy for anyone to do the yo-yo thing and you usually gain back more than you lost. Been there.
