One of the things I'm not crazy about with FS is that I'm constantly getting dinged for salt I don't eat. I never add salt to my cooked grains. I never add it to my sauteed greens. I just racked up 600 mg of sodium from the buckwheat and greens I'm packing for lunch. Add to that the canned garbanzos where I'm getting dinged for all the salt in the liquid that I rinsed off. I've given up on the sodium count on the app and just do the best I can

I really need to go a day without chocolate or Diet Coke. Going to try today. Give me strength and wish me luck.

I'm having moments where I'm considering working beyond my planned February 1 retirement date, but I really need to eliminate my workplace bad habits if I'm going to do so and get my fitness life in order with a 40-hour chunk taken out of my week. I've begun doing some really light strength training in the morning. Sometimes it makes my shoulder flare up, but that seems to be happening less and less

I make an effort to restrict salt too but not always. I put a little salt in my oat bran because I hate the taste of it and do not use sugar or fruit in it due to the natural sugars. Just plain with a half tsp of Smart Balance. I hate more the fact that FS doesn't understand net carbs. I eat dark chocolate every day. Not soda though. I do have a caffeine free diet soda sometimes.

Your post actually just inspired me to add Sodium to my tracker. Not forever, but I probably have more than I think I do. Good luck on your Diet Coke/Chocolate goal!

There are choices for dried grains and fresh greens, so no sodium is factored in by FS. If you saute the greens, just pick fresh from the choices and add another entry for oil or broth or whatever. Are there no items listed as sodium free garbanzos/chick peas? I boil my own from dried, so of course there's no sodium used in the cooking water.

Morticia, I keep a separate spreadsheet with my macros which shows me my percentage calories from each. It works pretty well if you're an Excel nerd like me.

I try my best, JustBananas, but I eat weird enough items sometimes that I can't find a salt-free one. I basically just try to be moderate about salt and don't worry about it too much. I think what floors me, though, is how MUCH salt is in all these things I don't salt. The rest of the world must put excess salt in everything or something

I'm a bit surprised that you and Hubs don't just boil up a couple of varieties of dried beans for the week (thus avoiding the sodium problem involved in canned). Soak them in plain water overnight, boil in plain water the next day for 1.5 hours, done! Literally no salt used in the process. In fact, it would ruin the beans, as boiling in salted water causes the shells to harden.

When he cooks beans, he uses a modest amount of salt -- nowhere near what's in canned. We haven't had any problem with the shells hardening. We've gone to buying salt-free canned. Even the salted ones, if you rinse them, you get rid of most of it. I may have confused the issue -- what floors me is when I try to find a buckwheat entry in the FS database, and the only one I can find has a ton of salt in it. (And I'm often too lazy to make a new record.) I mean... does everyone salt to death every grain they cook??

you can always enter the nutrition information by adding a new food in the food journal area it asks for brand name product name and then nutritional information and wants pics too hope that helps

Wyo: I could've sworn I read a journal of yours that mentioned it took several hours for beans to soften/cook. That is because he's cooking them in salted water. They should never be cooked in salt. Add the salt only after they're done. If you're making soup, add the beans last and only to heat them through in the last 5 minutes. As for buckwheat, just choose a dried item, then create a separate entry for salt.
