izzypup68's Journal, 15 March 2015

This week has been a challenge. There has been pizza, carrot cake, missed workouts, a sick child, and a flat tire. I was very frustrated at times and just generally felt sort of defeated, like I wasn't doing as well in the past few weeks. Over the course of the week, I have tried to keep doing all the things that have been working for me--exercising whenever I can fit it in, eating as much fresh fruit and veggies as I can.

My meal planning was kind of shaky in the middle of the week. It might be easier to resist the kids campaigning for pizza if I have a strong plan in place for dinner. I need to make my menu up for the week and stick with it!

Last night, we went to a friend's house for Chinese Chicken night. We cooked up chicken and several different sauces and each was sauce was delicious. I avoided the rice altogether, but did indulge in the alcohol. Then, for dessert, I had made my DH's favorite, carrot cake. I could not resist having a piece of that.

Overall, I feel like I just need to pull it together a little better for next week. I am going to make my meal plan and shopping list so I can get off on the right foot. I have to keep my attitude positive because I can do this!

Life does happen, doesn't it? I think about the 80-20 rule meaning I try to do well 80% of the time on weekends and know that 20% may slide a little. You have been really consistent so it will work out.

OMG! I could have wrote the same thing! But in addition I'm feeling slightly defeated this week. I think we started at the same time? I'm wondering if its that the "new" has worn off. I'm not even thinking about giving up, just that this week was a struggle, I'm almost 8 weeks into the new life, I'm not quite as fired up, and life happened for me too this week: A last minute call from a friend who stopped by at super time, a night out with the girls, a work lunch, very little motivation to make the time to work out, an unexpected visit from my nephew and a +.2 pound gain :) WE CAN DO THIS. Dont let one week get you down - remember its your new life!!! I agree with HCB. Probably 80-20 is great!!! Just when your in that "20" you cant help but feel a little defeated!!!

I got a call from the friends we were with last night and they were going out for Dim Sum this afternoon. I didn't feel strong enough to handle going out to eat and had no idea what I could eat safely at dim sum! I decided to beg off. Part of me was sad to miss out on the fun social part of it, but most of me was happy to stay home and eat my apple and peanut butter and get ready to head to the gym. Life does happen. That is why I am in this, to enjoy life. A big part of that is my state of mind and I needed to take today for myself today. DH's birthday is tomorrow and we will be going out to dinner. There is only so much self control to go around! :) I agree, Fun412--WE CAN DO THIS! I hope for an easier, more motivated week for both of us!

Izzy, I so relate to this. Someone here on FS talked about how when you give into something that's not on the plan, that after, you're not starting at the foot of the mountain, rather back up in the middle with the goal to the top clearly still in place. If I had thought like that in the first place I never would have gotten fat in the first place. I used to see every set-back as being back at the bottom of the mountain. I admire you for taking charge of your journey while doing the balancing act of taking care of family with all it's foibles. There's always going to be a reason to break away from the trail. But making ourselves the reason makes everything fall into place. Hope your day is filled with happiness, wellness and the calm needed to be the backbone that a Mom is!

To avoid mid-week-defeat *(I like that name!) try preparing a big pot of soup, or veggie stir fry..or any healthy go to meal that you can make in bulk on Sunday. This will prep you for what I call emergency meal! You can grab some, heat it up and there is dinner! Takes all of 5 min? This will avoid you having to grab a last minute pizza. You can still do that for your kids but meal prepping is key for avoiding having to cook for stressful days. This will also avoid any guild from falling off the diet. :)
