More research--as I am obsessive.

We are fatter because we are eating more. We are fatter because we are eating CRAP--wheat, sugar, corn products. We are fatter because we are CONSTANTLY eating.

If the Baby Boomers were going to ignore their parents and rebel, that's cool. But this is an area where their parents were right.

Yesterday I had a discussion with an older co-worker. She said that when she was coming up, her mama would cook ONE pound of ground beef and ONE can of a vegetable for SIX people. And maybe a slice of bread each. Then dinner was over and the kids went back outside to play until about 7, when it was homework time. Then bedtime. Dessert maybe once a week. Bigger dinner on Sundays at her grandma's maybe once a month.

She said she regretted having indulged her kids when she became a mother because they have struggled with their weight at times in a way she didn't.

That was kind of our food situation also. We used to put scraps from dinner into a "soup pot" that we had for a meal weekly; the dogs got the rest as a treat. Sundays were the big meals and we were able to have plenty for seconds. I never felt we were "deprived" and I don't think we were. We were never hungry and it was just the way everyone lived. We worked hard and played hard. We did not have time for TV. I was a single mother and food was a luxury for my two children. Meals for the week were prepared on my only day off and portioned out. I had each of them plan a meal and cook it one time a week to teach them how to cook on a budget. Thought that would give them a lifetime skill. They had access to television and saw what other kids ate that we could not afford. They rarely had junk food to snack on, but did have healthy food to eat for meals and snacks (just not in unlimited amounts). Unfortunately, when one left home, she went straight to fast/prepared food and she struggles with her weight. The other is better and does eat healthy food, but too much, so she also struggles. They are both very active and fit, but one is obese and the other is overweight.
