Modified my favorite meatball recipe to include ground turkey instead of pork. Results were fantastic! Just as much flavor, but way leaner. I did need to bake them longer to hit that 160 deg kill-all-bacteria temp, but totally worth it. Found the healthiest/cheapest (that happy medium between healthier and bank account draining) pasta sauce and added a whole green pepper, a red pepper, medium sized onion, whole package of mushrooms, and some baby cut carrots finely diced. Reduced them first in some red wine and water with a couple dashes or garlic.

Awesomely enough, HyVee's whole wheat pasta is cheaper and healthier by 30kCal and +1g dietary fiber +2g protein per serving than the name brand stuff that was twice the cost.

Awesome meal.

Sounds delicious! My family loves ground turkey in place of beef or pork in spaghetti sauce. My fave recipe is to use 1/2 turkey Italian sausage and 1/2 extra lean ground turkey and a spicy sauce with red pepper. I started using ground turkey in many recipes that call for a lot of seasoning, like tacos and spaghetti. The turkey seems to do well with a lot of seasoning, just have to watch adding the sodium. My local grocery store makes a delicious ready to cook beef burger with blue-cheese. I've been thinking about trying that with ground turkey. What brand of sauce did you use?
