Hipaagrammy's Journal, 20 October 2014

With today's weigh-in I'm one quarter of a pound away from losing my first 30 pounds and 2 1/4 pounds away from another "down-under" goal. I'm quite pleased with my progress and a little surprised by the lack of response from people. I know, I've said it before, but I find it so odd that my friends and family never really "saw" me as being as heavy as I was. I was with my sister and my mother last week and they didn't realize I'd lost weight until I showed them pictures of me taken in July during our yearly GrandCamp. Then I was at a baby shower on Saturday and my former co-workers were trying to get me to eat some food that was not consistent with my new lifestyle. I told them I'm trying to eat healthier and when I told them I'd lost some weight they looked like they didn't believe me. I got out the GrandCamp pictures again and they all said they didn't remember me being that heavy...I had lunch with them within days of the date of that photo so I know they saw me that heavy (they just didn't see the weight)...this just tells me people never really see my weight. Thankfully, they see me. Instead of letting that discourage me I look at it as a reinforcement that this is a LIFESTYLE change, not a diet. This is not about looking thin. It is about being healthy and moving around better in my body. Just about every day I notice improvements in that area. I look forward to having more and more mobility and energy as the weight comes off and I power my body with healthier foods.

Tomorrow I have my yearly gynecologist appointment. I think I've probably lost about 20 pounds since my last appointment, but I doubt she will mention anything about it. She never said anything about my weight gain all these years. In fact, much to my husband's consternation, no doctor has ever suggested I lose weight. Every test I've ever had has shown good results for blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, thyroid, etc. So I assume they always felt they didn't have a reason to tell me to lose weight.

One time GoodMan and I even went to a health screening for a discount on our health insurance. If there were any red flags you had to agree to having a health coach in order to receive the savings on your premiums. GoodMan insisted I go with him to the screening. We are both approximately the same height (actually I'm about an inch taller but he'd never admit it!) but I weighed at that time about 70 pounds more than he does. Both of us were surprised when I walked out of there scott free and he was assigned a health coach for his blood pressure and cholesterol!

All this to say I'm doing this for me...not to impress my friends and family with looking thinner...and not to fulfill a doctor's orders...I'm doing this because I FEEL better about myself. More in control, and more able to move around in my world. I enjoy finding changes everyday...clothes that no longer fit...a new resistance setting on my exercise bike...more stamina for activities in my day. These things keep me motivated and for now I'm happy with that.

Make today a good day.

You are doing great. I started at 192# peoples started mentioning I'd lost weight at about 150#. I think part was I used to wear baggier clothes to hide the rolls. I still hide the rolls, as I'm not yet in shape.

Well done on you weigt loss :-) dont be disheartened about friends and family not noticing your weight loss or that you were overweight. I had the same, i went from 191lbs to today 144lbs, nobody noticed until i had lost thirty plus pounds. As you say its nice that to other people our weight is not such an issue. However i know it was for me. Soon you will be fighting them off to your secrets on how to lose weight :-) good wishes on your weight loss journey
