i forgot to mention, i'm giving up cigarettes tomorrow. i don't know what effect that will have on my weight loss. the last time i tried it was really, really hard. but i don't want to sit out in the cold smoking anymore. it was so cold last year. the last time i told everyone, this time i am telling only all of you. i need someone to be accountable to, but i don't want the whole world (ie facebook) asking me about it all the time. i currently smoke a little less than 1 pack per day. and it's very expensive, and i can't really afford it. a pack is $13.50.

if anyone has any suggestions for apps, or support groups, please let me know.

I quit 5 years ago after trying for over 30 years to quit! Prayer really helps!! Keep busy--when i quit i washed everything in my house to rid of smoke smell, including all my clothes, dry cleaned my coats, clean the inside of my car. All the cleaning helped me forget about smoking and eliminate the smell helped with the craving! When you feel like you need to do something with your hands, brush your teeth and tell yourself have much better your breath smells! Good luck!!!

Try Champix but make sure you take 3 months' worth. I stopped after 1 1/2 months & have battled every since I stopped. They really work & without any real effort. Good luck.

thanks all. i can't try chantix because i already have mental illness. i did the e-cig last time and it made me cough a lot, so i gave it up. i'm trying nicotine gum now. although it doesn't go really well with my tea. i'm an atheist. i cannot see how putting a carrot in my mouth would help! i like the break i get going outside for 10 minutes, and the deep breathing i do, and the taste. i think i would eat a lot of carrots! i am definitely going to keep busy today. i don't work, but i have a plan. outside errands and inside chores. of course, i usually reward myself for getting stuff done by having a cigarette, but i have my gum. i think it might be giving me heartburn though. i knit, but i haven't done it in a while. there is something i'd like to finish by xmas though. so maybe i can get back to that. another friend quit by knitting. but she knits A LOT. i will find my own way. thanks for that government website. i am using a livestrong app, and i think i'm happy with that. my husband told me to play two dots, but i'm not much for games. still, i think that is a good idea for a 10 minute break. i do like tetris. thanks for all your encouragement and stories and support. i'll need all the luck i can get.

BrenIL1 i initially started because i thought it would help me lose weight. do not start! it didn't help me lose weight, and now i'm afraid i'll gain as i quit. i had a friend who started smoking and did lose a lot of weight, but then i realized she was taking ADD drugs, and that probably had more to do with the weight loss. i take drugs that make me gain weight. in any case, do not start!!
