I hate needles and I really hate iv's. That being said I have bloodwork about 4 times the next two weeks in prep for a day surgery I'm having in two weeks. ACK

Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God..." I read this one alot when I'm getting ready to go in for my yearly woman's exam. I can handle needles and iv's. It's the meds they deliver that scares me as my body sometimes has adverse reactions.

Thank you! Its nice to be reassured and that others don't like these things either! I don't mind the needles or I V either, I just can't look. I was fascinated the first time I gave blood and wanted to watch it swirl around in the tube and fainted thinking Holy Crap that's part of me in that tube! I just want it over with and soon it will be. I do need to be still as well. I don't freak out driving on a 6 lane highway so why am I viewing this differently?

because you do. that's all the reason you really need. I understand completely. I used to be hysterical when I had to have a needle, now I can sit there quietly and do it just fine, however, I can't watch it go in. As soon as that starts happening I slide under into the ether. Fainting is SO not cool when people are trying to jab you.

I used to watch it fill the tube too. Now, I look away. I can take the minor pain of being stuck. I just don't even want to count the tubes they take. But, you are SO very right Kris, this too shall pass! And then it will be all over! So think about what plans you have for once it's done. That's what I try to do.

I'm glad it's all over & went well for you. I've had LOTS of needles in my life, including IV's, & my advice (for what it's worth) is NOT to look when the needle goes in. I truly believe that makes it hurt more, because your mind translates what your eyes see, instead of what you actually feel, if that makes sense. Anyway, get some rest & feel better, & best wishes for better times ahead.
