shiny50's Journal, 23 June 2021

I am using food as a "crutch". Backstory...I am an alcoholic that went to rehab and quit drinking in May of 2014 and have been sober ever since. I was 160 pounds when I quit drinking. I went on to gain up to 300+ pounds in recent years. I have since lost 90 pounds with another 50 to go. I eat healthy during the day, then overeat at night. I was a daily drinker for 20 years. I feel like I have replaced my nightly beer with nightly snacking. I get anxious and bored at night and turn to food to feel better. I have went throgh years of therapy, but nothing seems to help. I am so proud ti have maintained my sobriety, but frustrated in the stall of weight loss caused by my nightly snacking. ugh

Wow what a journey you’ve been on. The things you’ve overcome took strength and perseverance. Nightly snacking is a huge problem that many of us face. What I’ve done is plan a nightly snack into my day. That way I don’t feel guilty and go over calories. It’s there if I need it, and if I don’t eat it it’s calories saved.

It’s been 37 years since I drank. It started out just like you are. I wish you strength and love

I have had the same struggle since I quit drinking and was so frustrated because I associated weight loss with quitting alcohol! But I went back to my oldest crutch instead, food, and gained weight instead. Nights are hardest for me for sure. I like the idea of building the night time snack into my plan. Just wanted to say you're not alone ❤️

Nightly snacking was really hard for me to stop. My husband needs to gain weight, so I see him snacking all evening. Finally, I just decided to stop. Most of the time I’m fine. Building snacks into your WoE is a great idea 👍🏻
