I'm in the small town of Pioche, Nevada this week. There's a great little free RV park here where we're staying. I'm get to do my walks on paved streets while we're here. It means I can wear my sneakers instead of my hiking boots while walking, which is nice.

Photo Description:

1) This is downtown Pioche. Pioche was founded in 1868 when the first silver mines opened here. It was a boom town for a few years and had a reputation for being one of the roughest towns in the old west.

2) On the edge of town sits the Godbe Mill, where raw ore was brought for processing. That's the mill there with the smokestack.

3) Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) are frequently seen in Pioche.

4) This is one of the closed entrances to the old mine. It's surrounded by barbed wire and signs warn against exploration.

5) This contraption was built in the 1920's. It's the powerhouse for the aerial tramway that carried buckets full of raw ore down the mountain to the mill for processing.

6) Much of the aerial tramway still stands in Pioche.

7) The mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) don't respect private property and will go right up into people's yards.

Love the pictures and the sentiment. The overhead thing to transport coal was really clever. Glad you are enjoying your stay there

Great pictures and descriptions. I love the mile deer ( beautiful, but not good eating, the meat is very high in tallow). But, my favorite this time is the first one of the old town, kind of melancholy. 🌈

Cute little town, Lonnie! Looks like straight out of a movie. And those deer may be a little rude, but so adorable. 💖
